Re: Steering issues!

I’ll scratch around under the car again today and see what it is like. By the sounds of it, it might just be worth changing it all and knowing it’s done for the foreseeable future.

Re: Steering issues!

I noticed that the UJ boot was perished about 6 months ago,so guess there has just been a constant slow ingress of rainwater whilst driving. Looks like next weekend is going to be a busy one then!

Cheers for the replies!

Re: Steering issues!

Think you might be right. It’s deffo water in the rack that is causing this issue. Grease has helped for now, but only driving to pick up a new rack! Haha!

Steering issues!

Hello all, Having a few issues with regards to steering at the moment, which is quite concerning! When changing direction (right to left and left to right) the steering wheel occasionally stiffens up and becomes difficult to rotate. But only for about 5-10 degrees of steering wheel rotation, then ...

Re: Trouble selecting lower gears

That’s scary! I must almost drive past your house once per week when I go to Bridgwater college. Haha. Unfortunately had to sell my Mk1 recently in order to buy my first home :’-(
Have to meet up sometime maybe?

Re: Trouble selecting lower gears

So, diagnosis was dragging clutch. There was about 30mm of slack at the box, which should be about 10mm. I’ve adjusted it and taken it for an hour long drive, all gears now selecting perfectly. New issue is high biting point now haha, possible new clutch required. Just have to see how she goes. Will ...

Re: Trouble selecting lower gears

Thanks for the response!

Worth taking 5 mins to adjust the clutch cable this morning I suppose. And I’ll get round to the gearbox oil later this week.

Might take a closer look at the linkage later too.

Trouble selecting lower gears

So, with the recent sunny spell my mk2 Scirocco has been running a bit warmer (particularly when in stationary traffic). The engine isn’t getting too hot though or even close to overheating. But something’s developed a hatred for lower gears when it’s warm. When the car is moving or it’s just been st ...

Re: Cambelt Change

I remember this being a pig of a job when I did it on my scirocco a few months ago. An impact tool didn't even touch them, it's as if they were welded in place! I ended up removing the pump, gripping the pulley in a vice with soft jaws (without deforming/damaging it) and drilling the old bolt heads ...

Re: Front brake shims

Good shout on the copper grease, didn't think about that. Doh! I will give that a blast tomorrow afternoon and should that fail then I will pick up the new shims. Yes, I can see the shims fitted already, just about thought the BBS's. They have definitely seen better days. Cheers for taking the time ...

Front brake shims

Good afternoon fellow 'rocco heads. Driving to and from a show this afternoon, my squeaky front brakes were winding me up. So I thought I would check it out when I got home. The discs and pads are in good condition, so I can only assume it's a shim squeak? It squeaks occasionally when in traffic and ...

Re: Oil Leak and Rocker Cover Gasket Identity

After a mental last few weeks and starting a new job, I finally had time to change all of the parts I wanted to. Some of the bolts were extremely stubborn, but with a little WD-40 and some gentle persuasion...all is well. It appears to have stopped the oil leak too! For now... Cheers for the help ...
