If you have discs, people always recommend the 16v scirocco cables 533609721, but in my experience these are too short and require flipping the calipers.
What I currently have is mk2 golf (I believe 16v) ones 191609721A which are 1800mm which are perfect

Re: Cam timing...
The white dot is likely just done by the last person who did the belt...Who knows what it lines up to. Go off the notch at the back of the cam pulley. What carb do you have? If it's down on power your most likely issue is the distributor is too retarded, or perhaps the vacuum line is disconnected fo...

Re: Conflicting garage advice, been ripped off?
My assumptions based on what you've said; - The warning lights on your dash are oil pressure warnings - Engine wasn't rebuild correctly/ And/or they did not prime the oil pump before first start (Typically you'd need to fill the pump with oil, some people use vaseline too) this avoids an air lock. I...

Re: compatible alternative engine
A carb engine (EX 1.8 or 1.6) would be very little work, probably the easiest direct swap, second only to another DX, JH. But there wouldn't be much point as they're slower. So many engines will fit in the A1 chassis with no modification. That's any engine from a mk1 scirocco, mk2 scirocco, mk1 golf...

Re: Flywheel / Flexplate (AUTO) balance........how important?
I think your flexplate is fine, if it was unbalanced it would get worse with revs. Small chance of a failing torque convertor, but they're pretty bullet proof! If it were me id run through all the mounts again. Get them all a bit loose on level ground, then tighten them all up again, Front and rear ...

Re: Flywheel / Flexplate (AUTO) balance........how important?
Sounds 100% like your engine mount. I've experienced this in two autos i've had in the past. Both times the drivers side mount was shot. You would only feel vibration when the gearbox is loaded up. In both cases the car drove smooth. Only when loaded up. You can reduce this a little by reducing the ...

Re: Connecting new technology to old...
You could ether get the spade connectors required for your new speakers, cut the old terminal off the existing wiring and crimp the new spades on. Or you can solder the old wiring directly to the new speaker terminals. If you're not comfortable with either of those you could cut and strip the ends o...

Re: Accessing wiring fault
The most likely cause is that there is nothing wrong with the wiring, you were just drawing too many amps for that circuit, so the fuse popped. A fuse is just there to ensure you don't overload the circuit with more amps than it's designed to handle. Replace the fuse and don't plug anything more tax...

Re: Pierburg Manual Auto Differences
Yeah, the linkages are very different. If the weber was fitted correctly you should still have the kickdown spring and correct cable coming from the auto box. Here is a picture of the linakge - https://www.clubgti.com/forums/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fvwts.ru%2Fimages%2Frepair%2F5687_02.jpg&ha...

Re: Mk2 scirocco 1990 1.8 8v, REAR Brake Lights sticking & speedometer lighting
Brake light issue sounds like the brake light switch which is opened and closed by the brake pedal is sticking. Or you need to take the pin out that holds the pedal in place and clean it and lube if it's the actual pedal that's sticking. both can just be done by removing the under tray under the das...
