Re: Mk1 west midlands fixing required
Try Davs or Adam at Auto-Bahn Service Centre Garage Unit 11/Tractor Spares Ind Est/Strawberry La, Willenhall WV13 3RN. They have mk1 Golfs of their own and have helped with various issues on my mk1 Storm and Golf in the past.

Re: mk1 strom
I've got one too so that's another one accounted for! Thanks for the info, any chance of the reg? Is it on the road Thanks CVP 85V taxed and MOT'd, was using it almost everyday until it decided to start when it wants to. Haven't had a chance to track down what the problem is, but I think it is ...

Re: Hot/warm starting problems mk1 Storm
I did think it was the wiring, but its just too weird how I can replicate the problem almost identically each time when rotten terminals should be a permanent problem. Worked fine for a 15 min drive this afternoon, and started fine immediately a few times when I got there. Left it for a few hours ...

Hot/warm starting problems mk1 Storm
Bit of a weird one. The car will start and drive fine for the first time of the day, and if you turn it off for a short time like a few mins it will start and run fine again. However, if you come back to it an hour or 2 later it will not start. It just keeps turning over and you can't hear the fuel ...

Re: Rocker Cover Gasket
I've done one of mine, the studs were easy to get out. Some came out when undoing the nuts, others needed a slight persuasion with a pair of pliers. Think the oil in the cork gasket stops them from seizing up. However, the rubber one is far better than the cork one.

Re: Mk1 GTI Radiators - with expansion tank
My mk1 also has the top fill radiator, but has the bracket for the expansion tank on the suspension turret. Ideally I want to change it to the expansion tank setup also as that's what it should be, and its a lot easier to keep an eye on the level every time you open the bonnet. Do you have a parts ...

Re: Overheated now overheating mk1 Storm
PS. How much coolant do these take? Someone has converted mine to an earlier style radiator that you fill from the top rather than the one with the expansion tank like later cars should have. I would like to change this back as being able to monitor the level from the tank is so much easier as well ...

Re: Overheated now overheating mk1 Storm
Looks like I'm going to have a busy weekend! I'm really annoyed because this was the driest old VW block I had ever seen, whereas my MK1 Golf was the wettest when I had it! So far my change list is: Oil and filter - despite being new, grr! Water pump - I haven't investigated further but it must be ...

Re: Overheated now overheating mk1 Storm
I have watched the pulley and belt when revving for the squeal sound and the belt is not slipping. The old one probably was and that's why I lost it. I think its the water pump as it would explain why its overheating now with the new belt on, but never heard a pump make this noise before. Sounds ...

Overheated now overheating mk1 Storm
Had a bit of a disaster yesterday. While driving home in a monsoon last night my battery light came on. I soon realised I had lost my aux belt and was worried I was going to get stuck in the monsoon once my battery had drained. I was just a mile from home so thought I'd try and make it. I was ...

If you can't find it, just run another +ve feed from something else near by like the rear lights.

Re: Temperamental mileometer (mk1 round clocks)
This is not fixed as I first thought, doh! The cogs seem to be all present and intact, anything else to look for?
