Low Idle When Warm
Hi guys, Car is doing what it says on the tin really - starts fine when cold and idles ok. However once it gets up to temperature the idle drops to 500 rpm or less :? It was running fine until the other day. It had been standing on the drive for about a week or so, before I stopped using it she ran ...

Re: My '88 Scala
So, it took a while to settle in (still not properly unpacked!) and the Scirocco was laid up whilst I ran my Accord as my daily. The battery inevitably went flat, so I charged her up the other weekend and went to catch some sun: http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/0A074750-77E5 ...

Re: My '88 Scala
It's been a while since I've last updated this! Although thats mainly because it's been a while since I worked on or drove the Scirocco :( I didn't have anywhere to work on my cars, so it was parked on the next street along, and sat there for weeks :( But then we upped sticks and moved :) bye bye 2 ...

Hi mate, I read Nate's post as saying it was Weber's with an internal filter :)

Re: How Severe is This...
I have the invoice for its installation somewhere, so I'm guessing it was a kit. It was installed by a previous owner, presumably to sort out running problems. I found it too fiddly though, so put a carb together from some spares. Seems to work ok now, although my initial fast idle has disappeared ...

Re: How Severe is This...
It was a manual choke converted Pierburg, and I couldn't get along with it I much prefer the autochoke :)

Re: How Severe is This...
Cheers Nate, I have to say I was considering sticking a neodymium (sp. :? ) magnet in the tank near the filler neck, kind of the same principle as the magnetic sump plugs that I've seen a few Prelude owners using. It sounds like it might be a plan. As for the pick up, I was surprised to find that ...

Re: How Severe is This...
It's a shame nobody makes a plastic tank really. But yeah I had come to the conclusion the filler neck was goosed. Can't say I want to replace the tank though :( I've had a scramble around underneath and it's ok on the outside, and from poking my head in the tank I'm confident the corrosion is ...

How Severe is This...
Hi folks, I decided to have a look inside my fuel tank the other night, and this is what I found: http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/31F79B54-F1B0-4402-90DB-DAB815EBA7EE-796-000001ECB57EF0C9_zpsf728a47a.jpg http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/D77BF2C0-3515 ...

Re: Spotted
Who else in Seaford has a Mk2 Scirocco then? I've just spotted a silver Mk2 with colour coded body kit, reg F86 ***, parked about 2 roads away from my new house :) Think it's local as I've seen it driving through Newhaven a couple of times, albeit always when I'm in something other than my Scirocco ...

Re: What are these connections?
A little bit of closure on this, I've also posted it up in my project diary. As above, the part in question is a thermo-pneumatic valve, and it controls whether or not the the secondary stage of the throttle can activate. It's connected up via the green hoses in the below diagram: http://vwtech.no ...

Re: My '88 Scala
So, progress for today - I found out what this part of my autochoke should do and how it should be connected: http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/9AD9106C-4BB4-4211-9E95-99CB44CE8D33-1673-000006BB2DCA0FFD_zpse27d08ca.jpg Apparently this a thermo-pneumatic valve, and it controls ...

Re: MOT Fail - CO Emissions
Today's MOT result: a pass!! :D CO was measured at 0.99%, miles better than the previous 5.90%. I'd just like to say thanks for all the help, especially for your tip RE the colortune Nate - if I hadn't have used that, I'd have sent the car back with a really rich mixture still! I'd say that the ...

Re: My '88 Scala
Had a result today, the Scirocco passed it's MOT with the new ARB bracket and adjusted idle mixture. The CO was 0.99% this time, so a massive improvement over the previous 5.90%. I wasn't charged a retest fee either, so all in all I was pretty pleased with that :D went and taxed the car straight ...
