Re: FRONT COILOVER TOP SUSPENSION CAP / MOUNT QUESTION?

Something Is not right with the top of that suspension! I'm sure you are supposed to have 2-3 inch thread extra to go through the supension turret to fix on the inner rubber mount + top cap and nut. I used the original top mount as the rubber top mount sits better against the wheel arch Thanks for ...

FRONT COILOVER TOP SUSPENSION CAP / MOUNT QUESTION?

http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac233/SMITHERZ/WP_000114.jpg Hi All, I am fitting aftermarket IOM coilovers to my 1988 Scirocco GT. My question is do I need the old top cap shown in the picture? The new front suspension strut seems to have a machined aluminium top cap. Do I just use the new one ...

Re: 1.6 8v ENGINE TUNING

I run mine at 1000rpm and its not been a problem, I find it ticks over better at that speed. I checked all the cables and they seem fine! It drives really smooth at 1000rpm so I guess i'll leave it for now and drive it for a while! It does say on the setup instructions to tune by ear and 1000rpm ...

Re: 1.6 8v ENGINE TUNING

Hi All, Quick update... I couldn't find a suitable cam for an upgrade so I opted to carry on and changed the rocker gasket fitted the Weber carb and fitted a K&N panel filter and the car is now back on the road. The car sounds and drives great (although I now really want a full Jetex exhaust to give ...

Re: GLASS SUNROOF SEAL

Hi All, A quick update, I removed all of the silicone (not an enjoyable task!) Re-seated the seal that was in the metal roof track and sourced an "original" VW Scirocco sunroof seal to place around the edge of the glass. It all seemed to be going well until I refitted the sunroof today... The seal ...

MK2 SCIROCCO WITH NO BODYKIT?

Hi All,

Has anyone got any pics of a MK2 Scirocco with the stock factory fitted bodykit removed? I can imagine without the lower trim the body would look cool and a lot cleaner, especially if the car was lowered.

Just a thought!

Thanks

3 point rear seatbelts?

Hi all, I have a 1988 Scirocco with lap straps but I have 2 young children so I need 3 point rear seat belts for the child seats. My question is, does the Scirocco allow for the fitting of 3 point rear seat belts? My 1969 Beetle had lugs welded into the rear pillars to allow belts to bolt straight ...

Re: 1.6 8v ENGINE TUNING

I would not touch the head gasket if there is no problems with it, as the saying goes, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" If you have a compression tester you can see what's the engine http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gunson-Hi-Gauge-Compression-Tester-Pressure-Measuring-Tool-/400384961053?pt=UK_Measuring ...

Re: 1.6 8v ENGINE TUNING

Quick update... I now have a Weber 32/34 DTML Carb and a K&N Air Filter for the stock air box. The car is safely locked up in the garage so i'm ready to strip the top of the motor. Whilst I am stripping the top of the block to do the cam swap, should I consider a Head Gasket change? Also is there ...

Re: 1.6 8v ENGINE TUNING

Again, all good information! Thanks for taking the time to reply! I do need to give the Scirocco a good service and have a good poke around the engine bay to start to learn about this car! Ive not had the dizzy cap off or anything yet! I have just taken delivery of a waterproof car cover so the ...

Re: 1.6 8v ENGINE TUNING

Thanks again for all your info! What is your opinion of swapping the points in the distributor for an electronic unit such as "Petronix"? In the aircooled community this was considered a must. I had a 1969 Beetle which I ran daily for 3 years through rain and snow and the car never suffered from not ...
