Re: Vacuum hose to MFA

Have a look in the Haynes comic to see what colour the wire is from coil to tachometer. I think its blue, which probably means it isn't blue. If you've got a meter that will count pulses, check coil output (low volts side, obviously) then trace the wire baack and look for the same reading. obviousl...

Re: Vacuum hose to MFA

Checking the pcb for breakages and any broken solders was my next move. If I dont see anything obvious I will try and look for a voltage drop from the coil to the board. Will be extra careful.. Problem's been annoying me for a while, that and no MPG reading on the MFA! Looks like I will need to chec...

Vacuum hose to MFA

Quick question, does the vacuum hose to the MFA control the revs and rev counter reading or is it electrical?
I have a faulty rev counter and having checked the earth strap to rocker cover it is fine.
My next step is checking the vacuum line if it is involved, followed by examining the cluster.
Thanks

Re: Valve stem seals

I would check that you get the right size new seals too.
With the kit that i bought the seals were the wrong size. I phoned up local VW dealer to get the correct part as there are a few different sizes.

They are a bugger to do with the head off, don't fancy your chances with it on and valves in..

Re: Where is the ignition timing mark?

I seem to remember that the plug takes a 27mm socket headed size bolt head. If you can get a bolt with a big enough head and possibly weld or use a couple nuts with a socket on the other end of it you can remove the whole plug, using the original bolt head inside of it. To see TDC and the advance ma...

Re: I need a detective!

Im really inexperienced when it comes to electrics. Im a bit lost here, when you say the ignition do you mean my ignition in the sterring column...the barrel etc? This is appears to be working... Yes, the switch can short intermittently. Is pretty easy to change once the steering wheel and spacer i...

Re: I need a detective!

Replace the ignition and the headlight switches. If these are at fault it allows you to flash lights etc but they don't stay on, as its as if the igniton is not switched on.

Had the same prob. Bout £20 or so of fleabay for both.

Re: Steering Wheel Spring

I was looking to replace the spring at the bottom rather than remove it completely. It looks like one of the washers/seats at the bottom spring have snapped. Will get a better look once I remove it.

As for the top spring I will replace it.
