Re: Jacking up and axle stands
4.5L is about what I got too... my pump is manual, in that you pump a handle a few times which creates low pressure in the cylinder and sucks the oil out. The instructions for mine are warm up for 5 minutes

Re: Jacking up and axle stands
Thanks for all the useful hints on this thread. Even if I can do it without jacking it up, still some very useful info on raising the car for future reference. I like the hint about the jacking it up from both sides at once.
On another note, to do with oil changes - just while we're here - has ...

Re: Mk2 exhaust manifold carb vs. injection
Check where the leak is before changing anything.
Get 50cm of garden hose and you will be able to pin point the leak, start the car from cold and stick one end of the garden hose in your ear and move the other end around the exhaust manifold and down pipe, you may need to try this from underneath ...

Mk2 exhaust manifold carb vs. injection
Does anyone know if the “toilet bowl” exhaust manifold is the same across DX and EX engines? (I have a GTX with a possibly cracked manifold and I'm thinking of buying a known good second hand one).
My GTX has had an exhaust leak from around the manifold or downpipe for several years – the symptoms ...

Re: ALternator belt pulleys not lining up
When I fitted a new waterpump and pulley last year I had exactly this issue, I think it was the new pulley that has a slightly smaller offset from the pump than the old one. I added cardboard spacers under the pulley until it lined up correctly, has been fine since.

Thanks, will check the wire! Sounds good, I don't have the headlight mod so will look into that too.

Re: GTX running hot
Thanks for all the advice - fitted the new water pump and took a lot of care bleeding it properly ( thanks mark1gls) and all good. Temperature now between 88 and 91 when moving, when stopped it rises to the mid 90s before the fan comes on. Interestingly, turning on the headlights causes the ...

Re: GTX running hot
Thanks for the suggestions - the links look very useful too! I'm not missing any radiator cards. I'm using normal unleaded petrol, but the fact that it was fine for almost 2 years of my ownership rules out the timing issue I think.

Re: GTX running hot
Thanks for the replies and advice - much appreciated! To answer some of the points:
I changed the oil a couple of weeks ago
I'm using concentrated OAT coolant, 50/50 mixed with water (I know it's not the recommended type, but the car had been swapped to OAT when I bought it and it seems ok)
I've ...

GTX running hot
I've got an '87 GTX which has recently started running hot - previously at motorway speeds the temp gauge would sit just below halfway, it's now just over halfway, although I can get it back to halfway by running the heater on hot. Looking at the oil temp, it's around 100 degrees C at speed, rising ...
