Re: 1980 Scirocco Storm over heating

It could also be a build up of crap in the radiator preventing flow. Worthwhile removing rad and flushing + reverse flushing. Also, whilst rad is off run a hose through the top pipe (with heater levers wide open) so you flush the heater matrix and engine too.

Re: Jay Leno looks at 16v Scirocco 2

I was disappointed to realise that Leno really only knows American cars (and supercars probably).

Re: Low mileage Mk1 Scirocco GLS manual auction

The suspension is how they were from new - there was always a slight rearward rake. You can see it in the old brochures.

Re: 1978 GLS

I would be interested if you could elaborate A bare metal respray implies that only the outside of the car was sanded/repaired/primed/resprayed. To me, a full restoration is what I've had done to my own mk1 - Car stripped down to bare shell and sent to Envirostrip. Doors, wings, tailgate, bonnet re...

Looks great but (and this my pet hate) a bare metal respray is NOT fully restored!

Re: Mileometer Proble.

I think this is the cogs inside the speedo unit. A common issue on mk2s - hence mileage should always be taken with a pinch of salt. There are a few how-to videos and guides on the internet - search for mk2 Golf odometer and you'll get a result. Also, search "odometer" here and you'll find...

Re: no horn

You may just need to clear the fault code. You could try a cheap code reader from Amazon/Ebay. If you're on Facebook there's a huge mk3 Scirocco Owners group on there -https://www.facebook.com/groups/763728790370975
Also, check the fuse if you haven't done so already.

Re: Scala Rad Fan Not Working

It's a fairly simple system - the rad fan earth wire is a permanent earth. Permanent 12v+ power is supplied to one terminal of the rad fan switch. At a certain temp it allows that current through to the fan. Take the plug off the fan switch and bridge the two terminals - if the fan comes on you know...

Re: M O T failure never…

There's a special section in the MOT testers handbook for failing Sciroccos - must include "rear wheel bearing excessive play" and also "rear brake performance insufficient". Obviously your tester didn't read the whole section :D

Re: Front ARB bushes replacement

As above I'd reiterate being VERY careful with the U clamps. Clean off all the dirt/rust from the exposed threads before undoing and don't use any kind of power tool.

Re: Hood cover for my cabriolet

Tonneau cover is what you need to search for. They pop up on ebay from time to time - there are three listed at the moment but they look like all late ones.

The best place to ask would be over on the Mk1 Golf Parts For Sale group on Facebook or the mk1 Golf owners club forum.
