Hi if your reading this, Ive got a '96 golf estate which just failed its mot on no. plate lights not working. I changed the bulbs, which were blown, and nothing, then I noticed the fuse was blown, so I changed this and the lights came on, great. But when I turn the car lights on, the no. plate ...

Cheers guys, starting to make sense now.
I'll let you know how I'm getting on with it.
Better advice than my mates. They suggested taking it out and thrashing the life out of it! Reckon I drive too slow.

Spot on man.
Nobodys mentioned thoses two things yet.
The engine idles really high, about 2000/1800 rpm.
And... I did kinda overheat it a couple of months ago. If i dont have the heating on full, it overheats in stationary traffic. Dont think the fans coming on.
Think I just need to adjust the idle ...

Anyone out there know what causes over run?

The cars a '92 GTII with a pierburg carb. Pretty much every time I turn the ignition off, the engine will carry on like putt putt putt putt putt putt putt putt, then rev up on its own and stop.

Afterwards theres a strong smell of oil, which might ...

bolt on or panel?

Hey there, can anybody help? ive got a '92 GTII. shes done 100k and been well serviced/looked after. Engine sounds smooth. Completly standard
So, I'm wondering if its worth putting a k&n on, or might it cause probs in wet weather?

Real names Nick,
I bought my first Scirocco half a year ago and haven't looked back. Love it. Its a red '92 GTII, on 16" oz superturismos.
Its my 5th vw and by far the best yet. Apart from maybe my first car, a mars red Derby that I bought with 27K on the clock. Regret selling ...
