Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild
I like it - Mars red suits the non-bodykit cars I think. I didn't like the early Mk2s when they came out - probably because they're not as pretty as a Mk1, in my mind. However, time moves on and they're getting scarce now, and I think the design somehow looks better now than when it was new. I was t...

You can get a rubber roller for wallpaper edges - is that the same?

1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild
I bought this one from this very forum about a year ago. I thought it looked a decent car apart from a couple of problems - the most obvious one being the big dent in the side. I think it's pretty solid, only 69k miles and a previous respray that was badly masked up, but the paint is pretty shiny. M...

Re: 'Decoke in a can' with head still in place. Fact or fiction?
I use a cold water decoke / steam clean on engines that I think need it. How to do it: Warm the engine up… get it properly warm so the fan is coming on, and let it idle. Get a pint (ish) of clean water in a bottle, pull one of the narrow vacuum lines off that goes to the inlet - ideally to the throt...

Re: Scirocco Track Car Development
This one's just a trackday toy, so I like to try out ideas on it, some of which might find their way onto the Mk1 Racer I'm also building (very slowly) but a lot of them will be ruled out by the classic touring car regs - bolt-in 6 point cage limited chassis strengthening, etc. I think a bolt-on str...

Re: Scirocco Track Car Development
Thanks Sean
Hopefully I'll have some more updates in a few weeks. Busy rebuilding a Mk1 golf at the minute.

Re: Non-starter - revisited
It's a rare problem, but it is just about worth checking that the dizzy is actually turning with the engine. If you don't have an assistant to help, just put the car in 4th or 5th gear and push it back and forth. I'm trying to remember if this could be down to the ignition switch, or whether a failu...

I vote for cow print!
Like the cloth, but the grain on the leather looks a bit coarse for a side bolster - puts me in mind of the 'antico' leather on a mate's Merc ML Panzer.

You probably already know… and maybe it's part of the migration process, but if I type in sciroccoregister.co.uk it redirects to the sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk version.

Re: HERMAN THE GERMAN! '91 Black Scala 20vt in the making
Are you going to run it with or without the kit? I think metallic black looks great on the body kitted cars. Mars red looks great on the non-bodykit cars.

Re: HERMAN THE GERMAN! '91 Black Scala 20vt in the making
I've done bits of resprays, but not a whole car, yet…. Biggest job so far was the front end of the black Scirocco ABF I've got, and the whole side of the track car.

Re: HERMAN THE GERMAN! '91 Black Scala 20vt in the making
Nice work! Lots of progress and doing things properly. Mates' rates jobs always take a bit longer, but hopefully you'll get to watch the process and learn a bit along the way. I've been teaching myself to spray paint in the last year or so, and been lucky that there are a couple of proper painters o...

I did think that suspension was a tad firm :D
Glad to hear you've found a bit of enthusiasm for it again though.

Re: Any info on a Jetex exhaust system please.
They're from the end of the downpipe back. Contrary to what's posted a bit above, I'd say the Jetex rubbers and clamps are better than normal, and would use them.
