Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild

I had some good news on this bit too... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mikehorsb/Rocco/IMG_3830_zps95bf1782.jpg Mark Carter at Classic-VW.co.uk tells me he's got a cabby he's breaking, that I can cut the front engine mount out of. I've been using him for quite a few parts lately - both new a...

Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild

So I managed to squeeze in an hour on this last night and started cutting out the damaged metal to be replaced with the patch. I got some advice from a panel beater mate on where to make the join. He reckons the middle of the flat panel is the best place to lose the join, as sanding filler to a smoo...

Re: MK 1 Storm - The Money Pit

The dash looks great. I didn't realise you could get paint in that finish.

Re: Rear Wheel Arches

I'm in the market for a pair of these. Is anyone else after them? I'm wondering if we can combine shipping and hand them over at the national meet, or even if anyone from the Netherlands might be heading over for the meet.

Re: 81 Storm

Car looks great - not seen this thread before. There are a couple of options for fixing up a cracked dash, if you can't find a good 2nd hand one. 1. Have it flocked - costs £60-80 + post, and the cracks can be filled with epoxy resin. 2. Fill with epoxy resin, smooth and paint with vinyl paint. I do...

Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild

So the GT is now in the workshop... back arch sanded down and then got the grinder on to remove the rusty bits and the skim of filler that was in there. the arches aren't bad, but they do want repairing properly rather than chucking a load of filler in there. There's an old dent repair in there too,...

Re: Restoring mk1 storm after 27 years owned

Good luck with the project. From the pics you posted, it doesn't look too bad. It's always possible that you'll find a bit more rot once you get in about it though. Even though the wings are good, are you going to take them off to check the inner wings and make sure they're all good too? Easier to d...

Yeah, they are a bit on the wide side... probably didn't help the handling either... lots of bump steer.

Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild

I should get back onto this next week - the daily driver Audi is back on the road, and through the MOT. I painted the front end too... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mikehorsb/Audi/DE657F50-99BC-4E5C-AAD5-C73B3421E8F3_zpstq1ws5oe.jpg Yes that's the Mk1 racer project still on the spit in the ...

Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild

I've got plenty of pictures of it, as it is now, but if you want to upload some more from when you bought it I've got no issue with it, and I'm sure people would be happy to see them.

You can buy it back when I'm finished it, if you like ;o) It'll be a 1.6 carb, most likely.

Re: 1979 Mk1 GLS

You can bin the ISV and run an aux air valve instead, if you want to simplify the wiring. I'm running that with an ABF on Kjet. The idle isn't perfect, but the ISV'll never clog up or fail to engage because the throttle microswitch failed….

Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild

Well, a month has passed, and I haven't touched it - I have rebuilt and resprayed the front end of the daily Audi in that time, and I've been doing some welding on the Mk1 Rocco race car project, so I've not been sitting around watching the telly… but I'll try to get on with it on the May bank holid...
