Re: Project Rouge - 1985 GTL

Carb cars playing up at this time of year is often carb icing. What sort of hot air feed have you got to the carb? Is the pipe from the exhaust manifold intact, and using the standard air box? If it's a spark issue you can diagnose it with a spark tester or inductive timing gun - attach to each plug...

Re: '86 GTX Rolling Restoration - Project Timewarp

This might be one that you actually haven't owned - one real owner for 24 years, although 3 on the logbook (owner's mother, and a demonstrator before that).

It came up on here a few years ago needing some work, but cheap and worth saving.

Re: '86 GTX Rolling Restoration - Project Timewarp

So, since all that last lot I've been busy with other stuff, but I got round to a few jobs, including painting the body kit, mirrors and bumpers. There was a bit of scuffing in places, and the bumpers were very faded, so needed a freshen up with black 2-pack paint, as 2 pack will stick to just about...

Re: The Gl

I prefer them without body kits, but taking the kit off could be a pain, and then you might find why they put it on in the first place, but hopefully it's OK underneath.

Go on - get it MOT'd. It'll give me a push to get mine done as well :D

Re: The Gl

Blimey - seem to be a lot of GLs popping up lately. I thought they were pretty rare! Looks tidy enough. I hope there's nothing nasty under the body kit. Yours is a later one, I guess, as it's got twin wipers - B/C reg maybe? Hey Mike, its on an A reg, registered around march '84 I think? Has brown ...

Re: Engine change to vr6

Off the shelf kits available if you have the money. Note point 7 here - http://eurowise.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11 According to this link the vr6 is only 75lbs heavier than a 16v, which is 35kg. Moving the battery would help but not all that much. Ben. A 16v is abo...

Re: 20VT conversion

When working out costs, don't forget to factor in the custom brackets, new gearbox and linkage, etc. No doubt a turbo lump has more power. I always found a tuned 8v or stick ABF was plenty quick enough for the road. I have a couple of spare EG lumps kicking around I think - might need a refresh thou...

Re: 1983 GL Barn Find

So I've been fiddling with this, on and off... just general fettling and little repairs. Rubbed down, sealed and zinc primed the surface rust on the bodywork (rear arches and windscreen scuttle mostly) Changed the cam belt and tensioner (last receipt said 1996, so only 18 years old - thought it best...

Re: Ian Croucher - ianaudia4

Sorry to hear the news. He was a good guy and an asset to the club/forum. He was always helping people out, from what I could see. Only a couple of years older than me too, and I still like to think I'm a youngster. Life is far too short, so best get cracking with some of the projects!

Re: KR on carbs

The head will physically fit but the pistons are completely different, and your compression ratio would be far too low. An electric fuel pump (like a Facet) and pressure regulator is a better solution. You still need an ignition curve from somewhere, so you'll need a KR ECU as well, or another metho...

Nice work - your welding and fabrication looks great. Looks like you've done quite a bit before. I wish!! Welding and fab work is all done by a friend of mine, I'm sure he'll be chuffed with the compiments 8-) I stick to basic mechanical stuff and a bit of electrics. I've seen a lot worse done by '...

Re: 1983 GL Barn Find

Are they... I think the two spares are from an injection... will see what I can figure out. Thanks for the tip. EDIT: VAGCAT is suggesting a slightly different story - 9A is an injection box but 4T is carb I think. Looks like you're right that there are two different types though. 31 --------- no lo...
