Re: Deja Vu All Over Again - '83 GL

A little bit more progress. A skim of filler over the weld - rub down with 80 and then 120 grit to shape it. This part of the car is meant to be stone-chipped, so it doesn't need to be perfect. It's since been degreased, had 'Zinc182' primer brushed on, a quick rub down, degreased again, and then 3 ...

Re: Site problems - flag them here please

I'm still having the same problem as James with PMs. I'd appreciate if someone can delete the 'old' ones that I can't see. Happy to provide a list of what I can see (and need to keep) if it helps.

Re: Best mechanical anti theft device

Disklok is a decent bit of kit but big and bulky to have lying around in the car. Nice and visible though, which will encourage the scum to go and nick the next car down the road. If your car is injection, then re-routing the wiring under the seat and putting a switch under the driver's seat to isol...

Re: CAD Design - Free!

Have you got access to any scanning equipment? A scan and a quick adjust of the CAD image might be the best way to go, to reproduce existing parts.

Re: Manual but coming up as an auto.

Mine's a B reg 1.6 carb. Could well have been an auto... often they do lower mileage, and then if you can be bothered to do the conversion it adds a bit of value, as well of making it more of a driver's car. Cue Mr Brown converting a manual car to auto just to prove a point, and because he's getting...

Re: Sump Compression Issues After Rebuild!

When you say you de-glazed the bores, how did you do that? Did you check the ring gaps before you rebuilt it? Sounds like you've got compression blowing past the A couple of possibilities - the better scenario first. 1. if you're running semi or full synthetic oil to run the engine in, you could sto...

75 Euro is about 56 quid at the current exchange rate - probably a better rate for UK buyers than last time.

Re: Manual but coming up as an auto.

I had one come up like that too. I assumed it had been converted, but maybe not. Mine's low mileage, so could well have been an auto. Could be a bit of both.

What sort of ages are your cars with this error? I wonder if there was a batch of them?

Re: Wheel arches

I could be interested in two sets. Anyone between West London / Berks / Bucks / Oxon and surrounding areas, or the West Midlands want to club together on postage? I also know a VW Specialist who might be interested in putting in a bigger order. It might help make the postage to the UK cheaper for fo...

Re: Deja Vu All Over Again - '83 GL

Bit of an update tonight. I had a couple of hours to spare, so I swapped the front struts and wishbones for some better ones. The ones that came with the car were pretty tired. No pics I'm afraid!

The more I lie under this car the better I like it. It really is very clean.
