Re: Calling all gearbox experts....
I'm not 100% but I think the clutch should fit - I think all the 020 bell housings are the same size internally. Check the clearance between the output flanges and the gearbox case before you pull them off and try to fit the bigger ones. The passenger side one is too tight with some early casings. I...

Re: Keeping your cool with an engine conversion
Hi Mike, Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's not a TDI, it's a 1.6 GTD from the Mk2 Golf. More in keeping with the era of car! I'm running standard Scirocco clocks. I've checked the part number of my temp guage with the one in a Golf diesel and they're the same. I'm running with the correct t...

Re: Reccomended Oil for engine and lumpy running
I've taken to buying Chevron 10/40 from Costco in a 20l drum - works out about £10 a gallon - for the cooking engines at least. If I'm buying Synta Silver I normally get it from vwspares.co.uk If you buy two or three cans at once it still counts as one carriage charge for the courier, so keeps the c...

Re: On M25, oil light and buzzer's come on...
Unfortunately, it's unlikely to be a one off. Sounds like your engine is marginal on oil pressure, and maybe the hot day and a longish drive just pushed it into warning territory. It might be a faulty buzzer, but it's more likely worn bearings or a worn oil pump. Try to get an oil pressure gauge on ...

Re: mk1 running problems
If the car has been stood for a long time, then it could be a few things. How many miles have you done in it since you got it running? I don't subscribe to 'old fuel' stopping a car from starting unless it's several years old. If the car has had a rusty filler neck, then it could be some of the fuel...

Re: Keeping your cool with an engine conversion
Different temp gauges can give different readings. and the sensors in your TDI conversion then the resistance ranges could be different from the original rocco ones. Which dash are you running? If you can get a laser thermometer on it, that would give you a second opinion. Is it showing any other si...

Re: FFS! Still No Brakes. Will I make Cosford?
I think it's either too much travel in the pedal (which is made worse by switching the engine on and operating the servo) or possibly a problem with the servo itself. Travel is likely to be in the rear drums rather than the front discs. Are you sure the rear drums are adjusted up right? If you pull ...

Re: 2.0 8v Track Car - X-Flow Head and ITBs
Some pics of my dodgy welding - the rivers of molten wax running from the seams made it interesting trying to get a clean and tidy weld. Maybe they'll make someone else feel better about their welding :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mikehorsb/B6F88965-1036-4D16-B364-508D90F34F47-409-000000...

Re: 2.0 8v Track Car - X-Flow Head and ITBs
Re. the top rear engine mount - I've seen a Mk1 golf with the same engine mount setup, ... a very quick Mk1 golf with a 200+ BHP 8v lump in it, and a similar thing was employed on souped up minis, back in the day. Anyway, I was thinking of stiffening up the front end around the X-member, but on refl...

Re: 2.0 8v Track Car - X-Flow Head and ITBs
Brakes will be a non-servo master cylinder from a poverty spec golf, mounted straight to the bulkhead. One hole blanked off and a single line to the back through the willwood bias valve that's already there. I bought a Mk1 Golf Rally car a few months ago, and the Willwood 4 pot calipers are coming o...

Got hold of an ABF dizzy cap today... looks like that will work to give clearance under the manifold and ITBs http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mikehorsb/Rocco/IMG_2751_zps76d3bdc9.jpg ITBs should sit about here.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mikehorsb/Rocco/IMG_2753_zps73b41635.jpg...

Re: 2.0 8v Track Car - X-Flow Head and ITBs
This is kind of where my thinking is at after the conversation with Smudge. I've mocked these up so that folk can make suggestions and see what I'm up to. Pictures borrowed from google images. The first one is actually a Mk1 rocco, but it's close enough. The car already has a 6 point weld-in cage - ...

Re: 2.0 8v Track Car - X-Flow Head and ITBs
Right, now that the 16v is on the road, it's time to start on the track toy again. Head was taken off a while ago, to measure cc of the pistons for the new head. I moved the car into the work bay of the barn, and started stripping out the engine bay of the radiator, alternator, bits of loom, etc. Lo...

Re: 2.0 8v Track Car - X-Flow Head and ITBs
So the spec is: - X-Flow head based on mexican casting from an AFT 1.6 engine - ported by Mr Hillclimber and flow-tested using the wizard's sleeve flowbench ;) I've since learned that this isn't the ideal casting to use, although it should be OK for the power target I have in mind. A german 2.0 cast...
