Re: Converting to 2l 8v but stick with injection or

If it's a road car that you do any sort of mileage in, then stick with injection. You'll lose a lot of MPG with bike carbs. I'd go with that advice whichever conversion you're looking at, but especially with a counterflow 8v, as there's very little room back there.

Re: 1979 Mk1 GLS

Tall block or short block will fit. All the 2.0 ones I've seen have an extra breather hole on the front of the block, in the same place as a 16v engine. I can't tell from the pics if it's there. 1.6 and 1.8 Mk2 Golf / Rocco blocks are the same - the crank stroke is different - but 2.0 are different ...

Re: dx to 9a bottom end with kr head and cams

You need the ECU loom ideally from a KR and ideally the ECU too- the 9A one will expect different hardware on the rest of the engine, and I'm not sure if it will work. Your best bet would be to buy the following bits from a Mk2 golf 16v with a KR engine ECU ECU Loom WUR Metering head and air box - y...

They're sponsoring a few forums - seem keen to build business in the UK. Might be able to get a few quid out of them for the Register too?

Re: The Rocco Grotto

So what's this magical primer then? I'm mostly using MIPA 2pack high build primer. Have some zinc182 for gloopy brushwork stuff. Have some 1k etch but haven't tried it yet.

Mostly I use that stuff because the local paint place stocks it, and it seems to work!

Re: Scirocco Track Car Development

More to follow on the mechanical stuff. In the meantime, one side of the car was very scruffy. Rust coming through near the rear arches, and a big scuff down the side where I dragged it out of the workshop and the side caught the carb studs on an old Alfa engine. So, before the weather gets too cold...

Offering up ITBs to check clearance - this bit is out of sequence, but you get the idea. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mikehorsb/Rocco/IMG_2753_zps73b41635.jpg Dipstick tube 'adjusted' slightly. ABF dizzy cap for extra clearance. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/mikehorsb/Rocco/IMG_27...

Re: Scirocco Track Car Development

Blimey! It's been a long time since I updated this thread. Well, there's much to tell. This year's project (due for completion March 2013 - oops) was - X-Flow engine conversion - ITBs (maybe) - Lumpier cam - Stiffen up the front end of the car. - Paint and general tidy. I've been working on this 'as...

Re: New diesel project. !

New veg oil is 89p a litre in Costco, but it goes waxy below about 5*C, so be careful in winter! Is a 1.6 NA diesel really the way to go? You might regret it if you ever need to get past a truck/bus/tractor/OAP on a country road. There are plenty of 1.9 lumps about - turbo and non-turbo. The loom is...

Re: sourcing a mk1 screen

Just seen this, or I'd have replied sooner. I got a contact for a guy in Shropshire who reckons he can get just about any windscreen - he was in the trade for years and is also into motorsport so does polycarb windows too. This is his website. He reckons he can get them made to order too, if he can'...

Re: how to get the most power out of a gt-2

i like the sound of the cheap way best haha, can you give me an engine code for an injection engine (or is it a dx engine?) is this tried and tested? what size jets for the carb, standard pooburg up to the challenge? just out of curiosity my friend took the head off a mk3 1.8 monopoint injection en...

Re: how to get the most power out of a gt-2

It really depends on how much you want to spend... I'd look to upgrade the exhaust when you can. Don't go believing the manufacturers' claims though. Cheap way... Injection head and cam (block off the injector holes with pennies), dx dizzy, skim 0.5mm off the head, rejet carb. - 100bhp and 35-40 mpg...

Re: MK2 1.6 - No gears and I am stumped for solutions!

If the box will select gears with the engine off, it should be ok in itself. Are you sure it hasn't just seized or nearly snapped the clutch cable? can you adjust it up tight so there's no play in the cable at the gearbox level. Can you feel a change in the resistance with the cable connected/discon...
