More of a sophisticated wine-drinking sort of a day!

Re: Happy Birthday the edmundator

Thanks, chaps. Day off work; sadly no time for the Sciroccos, though.

Re: A member of the register on TV tonight!

Given that I have absolutely no recollection of being filmed for my last appearance on TV (at work, on BBC Look East), it could easily have been me.

Re: Indicators

Early mk2 (up to '85) didn't have the front wing side repeaters. Presumably if you set up your circuit the same as that, you'd be fine.

I had no idea that "best" and "worst" had become synonyms. I can only assume this is similar to when "sick" started to mean "amazing."

Re: A couple of Mk1 press adverts

I used to have a program that would download more or less an entire (simple) website, so that it could be viewed offline. I can't remember what it was, mind, but I'm sure such things are still available.

Re: A couple of Mk1 press adverts

I'm sure it would be possible to download the website somehow, then re-publish it.

Are you not still able to access it by FTP?

Re: Mk1 headlights

Thanks, yes I did a search for the lamps and saw that the dipped/main beam bulbs are the same. I'll check the fuses and earths too. Don't think I have a spare headlight switch, but that can be the last thing to test!

Mk1 headlights

Driving OHP (my GLi) this weekend, at night, the headlights were absolutely terrible. I know, I know, everyone will say that's how they are, but I've driven lots of Sciroccos and this was particularly bad. Most noticeably, full beam made no difference other than casting a slightly wider pattern - th...

Re: The Revolving Door

Trip to Goodwood Members' Meeting today. Bitterly cold, but a great day nonetheless. The weather had a noticeable effect on the number of classics people took with them, but I drove down the night before in OHP. Cleared all the snow off with the sponge side of my window scraper this morning, this is...

Even the best trained, most experienced technicians sometimes struggled with these back then. Nice to see some things dont change!

Re: Hose kits for DX engine

Crazyquiffs do a set for "All water hoses except for the small bore rad to expansion bottle" at £205. http://www.golfmk1.co.uk/Items.php?cat=SLAREA&group=ENGINEBAY (it's a way down the page). VW Heritage do a Samco kit for £136.70, I'm not sure whether its exactly the same hoses as the...

Re: Introduce yourself

Hi Chris, and welcome. I'm sure all of us will be keen to see your Storm restoration, so get a thread started in the projects section.

It's always good to have some proper VW mechanic experience available, too!
