MDF is very heavy and won't respond well to moisture in the car (which is common inside mk2 Sciroccos). I'd consider remaking it in marine ply when you're happy with the design.

If they're in the right sockets, it's most likely that the permanent and switched live feeds aren't connected properly.

An '82 car will have lots of Mk1 (Scirocco/Golf) bits. The Haynes is mainly based on the post-'85 models. Your car wouldn't ever have had the expansion tank.

Uniroyal tyres are good in the wet, but I prefer continental or good year which are better all-rounders and quieter.

Take a look at Sean's (GTXTRA) Project Gitanes 2 thread in the projects section, he recently had some issues with replacing a rad on his mk1 GTI.

I certainly wouldn't insure a rust-free and generally well-kept mk1 for less than £8k now. The dealers are always asking comfortably over £10k these days.

Absolutely. Most of us are amateur mechanics with inadequate facilities to check our cars.

Very few people put worthwhile mileages on these cars any more (me included, sadly) so I doubt anyone else would use it more than you. I'd only sell if you can't justify the expense of keeping it.

You've got the best part of four months, it only needs to be driveable. Be good to have another GTX out and about.
