Re: Introduce yourself

Hi Wayne, nice car you have... it was advertized here but I think sold through eBay in the end? It seemed to be pretty good but you said in the other thread it needs lots of work. So what needs doing?

Yes, I understand it's usually a fairly straightforward job. I think there used to be a step-by-step guide with pics on the old forum.

Re: Restoration specialists (midlands preferred)

I had a look at their website and it does say air-cooled only. Thanks for the leads so far.

Restoration specialists (midlands preferred)

Does anyone have any experience of using a specialist company to restore a car for them? My mk.I's been sat in the garage since I picked it up in January and nothing has happened to it save for me getting the engine running. If I'm going to see it running before all the petrol runs out, I think I'm ...

If it was registered a bit late, yes. They're usually '89 F or G.

Re: Insurance company value

It begins. Zurich have decided my car is a category C total loss. Offered me £175!!! Tell them to F-off. What valuation did you give it when you took out the policy? If you said it was worth £175 or less then that might be a problem, but if you gave it a higher valuation they should respect the val...

Re: opinion on value

On recent evidence I would suggest anywhere between £2000-£4000 depending on MoT status and any rust or problems.

Do get in touch if you want to sell :hi:

You're a lucky....... :x

Re: Rear Spoiler

They were never shiny or painted... at least not the most common sort found on all scalas, GTIIs and bodykitted GTs (which is the kind your '90 car would have had). They are essentially porous, so I'm not sure they'd take paint well.

Re: fuel tank leak

if it's leaking from the seam of the tank or a hole (even a small one) then you need a new one. You can get them from gsf. The other ways it could leak are either the seal where the filler neck attaches, or the seal in the inspection hole at the top of the tank ( under the rear seat).

Re: help with tuning my weber

That sounds more like a mixture problem to me... and if it's variable I would have thought you have some kind of vacuum leak somewhere or something like that, so the amount of air getting in is not steady.

Surely someone else here remembers that fabulously limited edition Scirocco "Teddy" with the Ronal alloys and power steering. That must be the rarest of all mk.2s :shocking:

Thanks for your help, I'll give that a try. I was quite careful to transfer the HT leads across in the right order so I think they're ok, but I'll take a look to be certain.
