ORIGINAL MARK 1 STORM IN ORIGINAL COLOUR

Post by beard »

HELLO ALL

Thought it was about time to post a reply to "show us your mark1" which i had seen.

Saw pictures of brown VW Storms stated as Mark 1 but are actually mark 2.
Mark 1 Storms came out in only 2 colours - Black Metallic with Fawn Hide Leather or Diamond Silver Green Metallic with Black Hide Leather
250 of each produced.
I have all the original brochures for the VW Scirocco Storm from 1980 which states the above.

Attached is a picture of my Scirocco Mark 1 VW Storm in original Colour Diamond Green Silver Green Metallic with Black Hide Leather.
Reg no FOJ 923V - 68,888 miles
Registred 1 June 1980.

First time I have shown anyone on the internet a picture of my very rare Mark 1.

Everything on car is original except wheels but i do have original wheels from 1980 - Wolfrace alloys

Has a leather roof which can be opened all the way back and locked so acts as sunroof bit is open to the elements.
I think this is very rare on a Mark 1 Scirocco.

May this year finally go to Gosford in August in the car.

Welcome beard, thanks for sharing a picture of your car, be good to see it at the nationals as always good to see another Mk1.
I've got a Webasto roof fitted to my car, I've got the receipt from 1979 when it was fitted by the coach builders, I don't think they are rare as I have seen a few cars with them fitted, is yours like this? Mines not leather but vinyl as I had it retrimed when I restored the car but I guess you could cover it in what every you wanted.

Yes. Or perhaps you have one of the second series (1981) mk1 Storms, which were in cosmos blue or noisette brown.... ;-)

My Schwarz 1979 Storm seems to be brown. :?

Yes, I think it was the Germans having a joke at our expense (ha, ha, the stupid Brits will buy a black car... and we will give them a brown one!).

Either that, or it's just indicative of how pretty much everything went brown in the '70s, even black.

Here is my 75’ TS Automatic circa summer 1987. I was 18 & absolutely had to have one. So as soon as I had saved enough I bought the 1st I could afford.
SciroccoTS.jpg
So… £450 (& that again to insure 3rd party) got me this little red number with leatherette & blue tartan tombstone seats & interior (I think the body was originally silver). This pic must have been early in my ownership as I soon re-fitted the chrome rear bumper, picked up from Gun Hill Scrap yard near Dedham Vale. I had about a year of fun with her, enjoying the Auto kick-down & cool looks.
But all good things come to an end & a seized engine brought my all too brief affair to an end. I sold her on to another young lad with a GTI, pock marked with hail stone dents, with intention of transplanting the engine. A DVLA search shows the car untaxed since summer 1988 so I guess it never happened.
Crazy looking back as there can’t be many TS’s left.

Hello, I can't see a picture?

Another Mk1 owner is Somerset, where are you near?
I'm about 10 miles north of Yeovil.
