Wrong engine oil ?

Hello,
I just did a oil and filter change. I used 10w/40 Castrol gtx ultraclean and apparently this is a fully synthetic oil. Have I made a mistake and should I replace it with some classic 20w/50 ?
The cars high mileage 137k and running great but I’ve heard she shouldn’t be fed with synthetic oil and that may cause issues down the line.

If so I’ll drain it out and use elsewhere.
Advice appreciated

Opinions differ on fully synthetic oils, but the following article is reassuring:

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3476 ... ssic-cars/

The original oil spec recommended by VW in the late 80s/early 90s was either regular multigrade meeting VW standard 501.01, or "improved lubricity" oil meeting VW standard 500.00, with which new cars were filled at the factory. 500.00 has been superseded by 502.00, which many modern semi-synthetic and synthetic oils comply with.

The Castrol GTX ultraclean oils are stated to be semi-synthetic, and according to the Castrol website, they conform to VW standard 501.01, so they should be just fine for our Scirocco engines.

Most of us use 10w 40 semi synthetic oil now.
