An old rocker never dies!

Post by RussGLAuto »

Morning gents,

Finally got the original rocker cover and timing belt cover powder coated in matt black and re-fitted back on Gladys. A great improvement over what a previous owner thought was acceptable!

The carb air box was rattle can painted in matt black to match and isn't far off. I couldn't get the plastic air valve out from inside hence not powder coated.

The NOS rocker cover I bought of e-bay looked the same but wasn't. The oil breathe didn't have a cover over it and the back side gasket lip had four half moon cut outs, possibly for larger exhaust manifold clearance. Who knows. That and the gloss black powder coat finish just looked too bling.

What next for this long term rolling restoration? Well, that washer bottle is annoying me, needs a good internal clean, and the brake servo needs a paint together with the auto box gov'ner...

Otherwise, starting to look less shabby, and more "I could leave the bonnet open at shows"

Looks great.

I have been trying to find some to powder coat my rocker cover on my GTX but with no luck. Where did you get yours done?

Thanks

Thanks for that! I got it done at my local alloy wheel refurbisher, Wheelwright of Gosberton. They can powder coat anything metallic. Did the cover and bracketry as well as the cam cover for the price of 1 alloy - £100 +VAT.

Yes, expensive, but way more durable than a rattle can job... now matches the radiator fan cover I had done too.

That said, more than happy to send you my e-bay purchase in gloss black for a mere £5 + postage if you wish? I'll even throw in the brand new oil cap!

Thank you. That's a generous offer and it looks great but unfortunately does not have the bracket to hold the throttle cable.
Unless anyone knows a way around this problem?

Thanks

Usually the the throttle cable bracket is attached to the carb body per the photo in my post. Beginning to realise that there are multiple versions of the rocker cover...
