Broker Grove & Dean offered the best price for me (through their Performance Direct website), with the bonus of free legal protection and breakdown insurance, although my Scirocco is unmodified and annual mileage very low.

I’m with Lancaster and pay £110 on 3000mls. I’ve modified the rear brakes to discs, and used braided hoses. Other than that, replaced original with original spec parts.

As C 20 CCO above, if your car is modified, ensure your brakes are too. Apart from my latest arrival, all my previous Rocco's have been adapted to 256 discs and calipers on the front and rear discs on the rear. Insurance companies need to know you can stop based on your engine modifications. Its all power to weight ratios in terms of insurance and how much you pay, excluding other mods. Build all you want, just ensure your brakes are modified to stop you according to the engine/performance mods you have made. Be careful if your BHP goes too high as the majority of insurance companies will not touch you or charge extortionate prices.

They will need to know of any modifications, particularly engine changes and they're not daft.
If you don't tell them everything you're in big trouble in the event of a claim and will find insurance very expensive thereafter.

Most classic car insurance groups have some employees who own classics. Not worth the risk to void your insurance, even if your not at fault in an unfortunate moment.
Sorry to sound like an old fart, but best to be upfront.......
