My first scirocco love at first sight
My first scirocco love at first sight
Good afternoon all
So I was on eBay one Sunday evening and came across a scirocco Mk2 gt11 and fell in love not knowing anything about scirocco's or being mechanic minded I still went and brought it,
I have heard it run but with no mot I haven't driven it
It is currently in the garage and would like to bring it back to a clean drivable state
On the whole it's a clean vehicle from what I can see part from the front wing and bumber, dent and crease on the passenger door and head lining towards the rear
Without sounding thick I have a couple of questions
Is this an injection engine?
Does anyone know the colour/code?
Where is the best places to but parts like gear gaiter and gear knob
The car looks like it has ats wheels? Which I don't want I will reburb the other wheels are they original? What colour should they be?
In my engine pick there looks like something is missing?
Ps it won't let me attach files from a mobile it says file too big what size must it be?
Is there an online workshop manual?
Kind regards Nathan

Welcome to the forum.
That is a carburetor engine.
The only thing I can see missing at a glance is the pipe that should run from the end of the air intake to behind the driver headlight. Other than that, that's about all there should be in the engine bay.
The ATS cup wheels are quite desirable, so you shouldn't have a problem selling them on if they are not your thing.
The colour code should be on a white sticker in the boot, along with some other information, engine/gearbox codes etc. I think that is LA7Y though.
Looks like quite a nice car you've got yourself though.

Re: My first scirocco love at first sight
Welcome.
Wouldn't mind a better picture of the swirlpot, it's the bucket shaped thing just in front of and underneath the airfilter in your picture, it looks like it has been bypassed if the 2 pipes sticking out are anything to go by.
The engine is going which is good so whatever has been done works...so far.

Thanks Ben
The guy that sold it to me said they were popular wheels I thought they looked like spare wheels painted
Thanks for the info on the white sticker I'll go and have a look

Re: My first scirocco love at first sight
The spare set of wheels are from a similar aged injection version of your car, the Scala - and are commonly known as "snowflakes". They would have a had a diamond cut face and black background. On earlier Scalas, the background was colour coded. Your GTII would have come with 14" steel wheels.
All the old UK brochures (and more) can be seen at driversfound.com
The fuel reservoir bypass is sometimes done when the carburettor is replaced with a Weber - if you have a manual choke then you most likely have a Weber. If it's still auto choke then it was bypassed for another reason.

Mr.brown it does have a manual choke underneath to the left steering wheel
Thanks for the info on the wheels I think I will go with the snowflake instead of the steels

Welcome Nathan
I used to have an LD7V GTII, Silver Grey Metallic.
Looks like you carb is still the original Pierburg as the Weber uses a bolt to secure the air filter to the carb and yours is using the original wire Spring clip. The vacuum reservoir is still connected too suggesting Pierburg again. You could get manual choke conversions for them back in the day so I'm guessing yours had one of them fitted.
Hope you get it on the road soon and start to enjoy it
