1982 MK2 (Early car) Bangor Gwynedd Tax & mot exempt

Model: GL
Year: 1982
Mileage: 131000
MOT: Jan 2025
Current owner: Me
V5 present: Yes
Location: Bangor Gwynedd
Price: £4750

I acquired this car just before Christmas 2021.
It had lain in the previous owners lock up since being towed there by the AA in 2011, due to fueling issues. It was covered in grime. I towed it on my trailer from Cheltenham home.
After a few hours work I managed to get the engine to run. It was the usual scirocco problem of a pin hole in the filler neck allowing water/dirt in the fuel tank.
The car started out as a 1.6 GL However the previous owner had the car restored in 2004 by a VW specialist in Lincolnshire (I have the receipt) During the restoration a 1.8 injection engine was fitted, along with a new interior, this included having the original seats front and rear reupholstered in leather
The colour is cirrus gray unusual for a scirocco, in fact unusual for a VW as the only used the colour for a few years in the 80’s
Its a very unusual car being an extremely early RHD MK2, first registered 1 Feb 1982. With information from the Scirocco register MK2’s went on the market in April 82 with a few registered in March 82. I would think this car is almost certainly the earliest known still roadworthy RHD MK2
It’s tax and MOT exempt however I have strong feelings about MOT exemptions, so I still MOT’d both my scirocco’s I certainly would never sell or buy a car without an MOT
Its never been welded I’ve waxoiled the undersides which are in very good condition
Ive actually used this car quite a bit. Ive been to Oban in the car, for me that’s a 800 Mile round trip, Also went to Blyth Northumberland, 560 mile round trip, I was there for a month. I used the car everyday without issue
It was on the scirocco register stand at both the restoration show and November classic car show in 2022
Things that need doing or improving are.
Small rust bubbles on bonnet leading edge
Rust bubble Front RH wing
Very slight bubbling on rear LH wheel arch
Rocker cover has a slight weep (new gasket included)
Slight leak from gearbox I've checked the level occasionally but it’s never needed oil
Rear wiper not working, Motor is ok but wiring by hatch hinge needs re doing. To do the job properly it’s best to take the head-lining down
Being exceptionally picky and critical the paintwork is showing it's age but still shines nicely
These early MK2’s have a lot of differences to later cars Feel free to ask if your not sure

I have renewed/improved with the following work done
New:-
Fuel tank
Stainless steel filler neck
HP fuel Pump/filter
Cam belt
Water pump
All main coolant hoses renewed
Steering rack boot
Brake light switch
I did the usual brake upgrade that is, 22MM Master cylinder 9’’ Brake servo Lot more feel in the pedal
New calipers, including slider bolts, Pads, discs Goodrich hoses on front (I’ve not got around to fitting the rears)
Magni Cour Ignition Leads, Distributor cap, Rotor arm, & Flame thrower ignition coil
Starter motor
Drive belt
2X New bottom ball joint
New correct size clutch cable
Gear linkage bushes replaced
Oil & filter change x 2
Refurbished zender 15’’ Alloys and new Toyo Proxis
Osram night braker head and fog lamp bulbs fitted
All suspension is standard except for 2’’ Lower springs
Waxoiled
Lots of paperwork and receipts going back years
I really don't want to have to put this car on ebay unless I really have too
