Air intake hose. DX Engine 1990 1.8i to air filter box

The piece of corrugated hose between the bumper and the underside of the air box.

Heritage parts say it’s the same stuff for air cooled and a bunch of other VW engines. Part number 028-129-078 with 50mm diameter. Will this work?

Is there generic tubing that could be used instead ?

The garage i use threw mine away when he changed my engine 8 years ago as he said it was a "puddle catcher"?

Not been a problem except for a slow warm up
