Garage find mk1 scirocco

Post by accyimp »

Hello - couldn't find a newbie area!
A friend and myself have recently acquired a white x reg scirocco gti, it was last on the road in 1987 and has since been stood in a leaking/damp garage!
It is currently 'drying' out in a well ventilated storage unit with the most obvious signs of deterioration being both door bottoms,f/o/s hole to upper part of sill/wheelarch,tailgate closing panel-upper/ tailgate around glass and surface rust - widespread.
It is obviously going to be worth saving - but, at what cost? I will try and get some pictures up to give an idea of condition.
As an aside - my other cars, clan crusader/lotus elan plus 2/mk2 escort RS2000 - his, trabants x4, barkas pickup, wartburg pickup and tractors.
Regards
Andrew
PS - hope you dont mind but an immediate question in fuelling section!

Yes, please get some pictures up. MK1 GTIs are rare beasts, so great to hear another one might make it back to the road.

Rust will be your enemy - floorpan panels are reasonably available as they are the same as mk1 Golf, but wings, doors etc need mending unless you get lucky finding something decent (and affordable) second hand.

Welcome on here.
An interesting and varied collection!
One question: does your user name have any connection with Accrington, as it's known locally as 'Accy'?

I know a guy on the imp forum, Drew Aitchison from Bristol aka Kilty. Sold him a Vauxhall Cavalier Diplomat a few years ago.

I hope your seat fabric is in good nick, as I've never seen another with the mk1 GTI pattern in red.
