Wiring in a radio

Post by philiano »

Hi all
I've bought a radio for my GT2, as the old one had been removed. I thought it'd just be a case of matching the colours of the wires, but they don't match up.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a mk2 GT2 or know what the wire colours are? I'd be very grateful.

Phil

The wires are as follows:

Live = red
Earth = brown
Radio illumination = grey/blue (very rarely used now as radios are self illuminating)

The speaker cables are the assortment of coloured cables, you will need to check each one individually by setting the fader and front/rear on the radio until you find the right ones, generally though the speaker cable that has brown is the - cable.

would you happen to know which wire runs from the ignition? Once I've tracked that, I think its sorted!
Thanx

Scirocco's don't have a wire from the ignition, it has a a permanent live.

I'd Invest in a multi-meter, single greatest tool when it comes to fitting head units. Mine was a mass of random wires and colours! Complete with at least 2 seperate earths, so i think someone messed around with it previously.

Makes it really easy to find permanent and switched lives. Hope all goes well!

Sorted. I found an old wiring diagram in the depths of the internet, and the colours of the wires were only slightly different. Wired it all in, and found one of the speakers is busted. Just got one from a scrappy tho.
Time to start putting all my 80s music in the Rocco I reckon!!

Hi Phil, don't suppose you have a link to that diagram do you? I have just found the same issue out, despite getting a convertor from Halfords, which has nothing in common with the wiring in my 'rocco whatsoever!

Thanks,

Alex

I have just wired a radio in, 1991 GT2.
Red = Live. Attach this to the Red and Yellow on head unit as its just a permenant live like IanaudiA4 says.
Yellow & White – Doesnt seem to do anything
Black – Negative
Brown – Earth

Speakers – Cant remember, i used abit of trial and error with a speaker.
