Is this the curse of the fast fit tyre centre where they have used a trolly jack in the wrong place and bent all the metal in the box section behind the wishbone.

The box section behind the anti-roll bar (both) have been cut out and replaced with new fabricated pieces.
I'd like to blame someone else for the damage but I kind of guess I could have had a part in it!
It's like the axle mounting points that were so bad, maybe I could have done a better job the last time I looked at them!
That was 15 years ago, this was my daily runner back then - I had to get it back on the road..

I think there is a fair bit of learning to come out of this: if you are thinking of restoring a mk 1 scirocco and you see a few bits of rot, then you start digging and thinking is it going to get worse? the answer is YES...

Good to see so much work going in to restoring a Mk1, there seems to be alot of rusty metal in this Mk1.
Very jelous of your garage wish I had that space to work, there seems a lot of fords in there can you tell us why?
Looking forward to seeing this car in the flesh, keep up the great work it will be worth it, I've had mine on the road for 17 months now after a 10 year restoration and loving driving it, wished I finished it years ago.

The bloody thing has taken over my life - you can easily underestimate the level of attention and commitment it takes.
Even with subbing out the body work, there is still all the detailing on the trim etc which I'm busy with now.
Even I'm shocked at how badly corroded it is, leaving it outdoors has certainly not helped, but if you had seen it prior to being stripped down you would have thought it was not too bad - bear in mind the sills (outer) only had very minor holes in them and the rear panel similar.
It is scary what can lurk beneath! this is a 'W' plate 1980 example after all
The garage where the work is being carried out is not mine, it is a body repair specialist who do a lot of classic car work, the owner is a Ford enthusiast and they have restored a lot of classic Fords.
I'm expecting some more pics soon, I visited the car on Monday and they were welding in a new wheel arch, next it is the outer sills and then some paint hopefully!

I've been holding on to update, hoping I'd have some new photo's but none so far, but it has been Christmas after all and the body shop doing the work had a heap of twisted cars outside when I last visited - following recent poor weather.
Road going every-day cars are always going to take priorty.
I have done some photo's of bits of trim etc that I've been sorting out over the last few days but I just feel they would not really be worth uploading, and most people find more interesting things to look at when they are on the Internet. I know I do.
The last few days have been labeling up Interior and Exterior bits in little 'jiffy' bags; Jeez it's sad but after stripping and putting back together two MK1s - I kind of know which screw and clip goes where after all this time..
Oh! big thanks to Ryan, met him for the first time just before Christmas and bought off him a good set of Glass which many pieces are much better than were on the car in the first place, especially the front screen and accompanying seal.
One thing that has been a revelation for cleaning up bits and pieces has been my Dish Washer, as always it's a case of 'Go Steady' and draw the line at Gear Boxes etc but WOW! Whether or not it will ever see active service as its intended purpose ever again remains to be seen, but I hardly ever used it for that in the first place! It was a simple no brainer

Happy New Year bud! the dish washer trick was one of my favourites but suspiscion was aroused as soon as i asked how you worked the machine,lol
I can certainly vouch for this car looking "above average" as it sat laid up on Jimmys drive but nothing suprises me anymore when it concerns mk1s and rust.
if there was a new years honours list for Sciroccos my friend you would certainly be on it for a knighthood.

Yeah so. Both sills are now back on, wheel arches done.
New Head Lining turned up (cheers Marshall )
I guess I could get some criticism for the bottom of the floor not being factory spec, but, I'm not that arsed - it's a helluva lot better than it was.
I think now it's the green light for final prep.
It's the outer body that I want to look the dogs, and i think that is well achievable now.
Both wings are pattern but straight and no rot - so no real issues, Both doors are excellent, Roof has gone back to bare metal after the old 'bee sting' aerial hole has been welded up ( Fashion's change) Bonnet V good.
Seeing a bit of light at the end of the tunnel now.
I was speaking to the owner of the bodyshop today enquiring about the final price. He said: 'Jim, I'm not even thinking about that right now'
I replied: 'I foo£in am, It's keeping me awake at night'
