Bit of pre-Retro-Rides TLC for this one - it started to get a bit lumpy in the hottest of the weather recently and is still crying out for some ICE.............a recent e-bay win should put that right.......

Radio wired in, speakers a bit 'pop bang whiz' after a few years of inactivity, time to upgrade methinks and with the rear light flickering sorted am all ready for the trip to Notts next weekend.

Rear light issue caused by water ingress via badge clips, temporary solution = badges off and taped over, this one doesn't need to be too pretty yet, more interested in ......gauges, bit of gear-shift bushing and only then - once Mk1 and BRM painted - bodywork.

Can highly recommend the Alpine 6x4's perfect fit in the original holes. You could put a dab of silicone in the badge holes and refit, good and easy fix.

Alpines fitted all round today - sound much better. Don't know if it's me being cackhanded but will have to work out a permanent solution re the rear speaker grilles not fitting properly due to speaker element sitting a little higher than standard, velcro strips methinks.

also tried one of the ebay headlamp looms - came with incorrect - for a mk2 scirocco - spot lamp connections and for the life of me I couldn't get to work properly, sides ok, dipped ok but reverted to sides only on main beam, seller refunded - still searching for a solution there. Who out there has a source for a completely 'plug in and it just bloody well works loom'?

back to headlamps by dickensian candle light..................

Fit the grill and push tap washers over each leg then fit the speakers.

Because the washers are quite thick the speaker sits low enough that it doesn't hit the grill.

Had the same problem with the tweeters on the JBL speakers hitting the grill.

Like what Colin said, but I used foam/rubber washers, works well and secures it nicely.

Nearly three years on since the rescue job this old car just keeps on impressing me.
Needed a new heater valve - had constant heat in recent hot weather - now sorted.
Gearshift bushing next and then the gauges.
