NICE work Dan!!!!

I am suitably impressed with the way you have removed any metal that is not absolutley necessary to keep the shell straight!

I presume its going to be a full space frame, with an aluminium sheet for the floor?? with the body shell bolting onto specialised mounts on the rollcage / chassis, like the Beetle and old Landrovers do?

Cheers Chaps,

Yes the car is having a full Pro Mod tube chassis using Chromoly which is about a third of the weight of standard CDS. the chassis spec makes it limitless in speed and quarter mile times although I would need very deep pockets to get 6 second quarters!

The inner sills and skins are going soon but not before outriggers from the new chassis are added and mounted. The front end is measured and ready for the chop hopefully tonight. Race ready I am expecting to be 1 tonne in weight and something around 400bhp.
...its hard to really show how much work is involved in making my dream Scirocco.. Check out Insane Creations on Facebook where this magic is happening.. some exciting projects coming up!

So.. The front end has gone although I have been wise in keeping it as whole as possible along with the wing bolt holes so when I fit up to the new chassis I know the car is as it was before the cuts.. Jig was also mounted up level and bolted to the floor ready for the rails to be put down for the tube..
Google image search 'Pro Mod Chassis' to get an idea of what the chassis will be like once made..

Tonight I will remove the rest of the firewall and front end of the chassis then I can start trimming and tidying what I have done so far. 8-)

So this is what we are aiming to put back in the white lady along with the V8 engine and the smiles per miles!

Last night saw me finish the last of the bulk cutting from the chassis.. next up will be trimming and tidying as well as removing the inner skins and the rear tubs to fit the all important 15x12 wide wheels on drag radials
It all looks very savage but its calculated and of course when complete will still be the beautiful white lady!

So things have been a it cray with life changes and work but there has been progress with the build.

First up was ditching the S8 engine for a 351 windsor 5.7 V8 from a ford econoline with 4 bolt main for extra security in the block! This will be played with for extra ooomph!

The chassis has been started and is starting to take shape now as you can see. 95% of the body manipulation has been completed and we can start to see where things are gonna live..

The rear axle has been cleaned up of its old brackets and the 4 link kit has been set up in position and been placed after measurements in the big hole that was the floor!
The new sills have been added in place to take the chassis and you will also see the chassis is now tacked to the body without braces in!
Next up is the main loop running from one side to the other and the tube to mount the the 4 link and suspension.

The gearbox will be a 2 speed power glide with the old trans from the day van sold off.

I think you will like the pictures and I cant go without saying a massive thanks to my top mate Ron Haslett from Insane Creations! The work we are doing on this is one of a kind and the results will be amazing! Very excited and a long way to go but its nice to add metal instead of taking it away!

So we continue with the build and we are going up!

Shoulder bar in, bars for the 4 link at the rear, main hoop in and dash bar with uprights too!
Door bars will be fitted tonight and the pressure is on to find my new wheels! 15x12 rears are proving a pain lol

Couple of pics to soak your appetite!

Soooo we got some rear wheels and they are exactly what I wanted! Centrelines 15x12 with Street legal tread.
Need to find the fronts but I am sooo looking forward to seeing them tucked in that rear arch!

Moved pics in crapbucket so lost links but will be uploading more this weekend as there are a few. Check out Insane Creations facebook page for regular updates also!

Cracking on this evening with some more front suspension alignment and set up... Front set up will consist of coilovers with damping adjustment mated to ford sierra spindles and a MK2 Escort steering rack. All components that require bushes will be on rose joints and custom made. Mr MOT tester wont have much to test then 8-)
Unfortunately being such a custom build requires parts from other marques to make it so. The v8 from Ford is included in the aforementioned lol.

So good things have been happening, wheels put in place but the arches to the side need some fettling to give me rolling clearance. Its looks so good as it is but me being me I want it at least another inch or so closer to the arch rim.
Front horns were put in with the suspension struts and spindles and the mounts for the top of the struts can be fabricated.. Its difficult to appreciate the amount of custom fabrication that goes in the chassis to get it rolling. . Plenty going on and the car is really looking good, Engine angle set in place and my good friends Ron (Insane Creations) and Graham (Bad Apple Racing) have come up trumps with a gearbox for me! ..with a bell housing swap I can mount it to the engine and start looking at prop length to the rear axle.
Very exciting times ahead for the White Lady

Cheers, its coming on well now and I have my list to complete the chassis :groove:
Door bars,
funny car cage,
Lower arms,
Motor plate (bolts between the engine/waterpump and to the front horns)
Gearbox mount below the tail shaft
4 Link rear suspension set up,
Rear tube work and mounts for the removeable body!

With this done I have the same safest strongest chassis you get in the Pro Modified cars knocking 5 second quarters.

Last night someone decided they wanted to buy the monterous anchor at the back of the engine that is a Ford E40d trans.
So we were tasked with removing it with the converter also.. Ron and I met up to play musical trans! After having to break the tacked welds and remove the passenger side horn we managed to remove both engine and box after a struggle!
Of course with the old trans gone this gave a good opportunity to see how the replacement 2 speed glide would fit in its place. safe to say its a darn sight smaller and my power to weight ratio has just climbed up a notch or two!
