monza lisa gtx rebuild

Yeah i know ive started the post!
But seeing that im doing the work i thought id keep those that are interested and know of the happening of this build see a few photo's of it all and a quick read up on whats what..

Well i was due to pick up the car this weekend but due to this and that it will now be around a week or two.
So i thought lets start to refurb this mass of parts that have taken or my bedroom, my empty wooden crate, and even the boot of my sierra !!!
Well then the car
It's a 86 gtx in flash silver (i think). The car has been stripped for just about every thing on the inside, even the wiring loom has been "lighterned" ie wires removed that were not needed.
The engine bay is gutted, but luckly for me the loom and fuel lines are still there..
The owner dave luban was in the process of building what i would say "one hell of strip car" i mean i was amazed at the lenghts and parts he has / had for this car. It would of been a true tarmac terrorist !!!
So anyway on to the rebuild..

As i have still got a few parts left from a little chuck out i had i decided that i would start with the front end. Engine box steering etc.
After digging out a newish steering rack i once fitted to one of my old gtx's and looking at it for around 5 mins with a fag and a can of coke i decided that i want everything clean tidy and refurbished to the best i can within a budget set at...................ha and you thought i was going to say !
So it was on to trusty ebay in search of parts / goodies..
First purchase came from a well know fella on here...An eyebrow spolier ! Not what i was looking for but hey.. 2nd to come along was from rohan a full interior headlights and floor mats along with door cards.....then came along the goodies..new top mounts track rod ends lower ball joints cv boots rack boots new gear linkage bush's a must have. Then on to the trusty register where i was inundated with parts from markh, and few pms flew back n fourth and a meeting at heathrow saw the result in the carpets clocks stalks indie's rear wiring loom centre console. And a pedal box / steering coloum from jimmyconway. result just need the roof lining and we are pretty much sorted...
Well with all this in the bag it was time to start cleaning painting and fitting ...

All of the gear linkage stuff has now been paited and fitted with new bush's.
New boots are fitted to the rack.

While im cleaning painting and refubing parts i thought id also start on the engine..Bit of tough decision lisa had to make on this, it took all of 5 secounds to say the word 2litre when i gave her the choice of a 1.8 or 2ltr.
The engine is my old lump i had in the monza before i took the 16v route. It's a pokey little engine, last dyno'd at 132 bhp with 146 lbs of torque. The bottom end is pretty much standard apart from a windage tray to stop oil surge while two wheels are up around a corner. The head is from a company in kent race power motor sport (see links tuners section) and is fitted with a fast road / sprint cam, toughend springs, valves and buckets. Also the standard port/polish.
As the engine has been sitting about wrapped up under cover it will need a little going over so a new gasket set is on the order list, along with a mk3 golf gti head gasket cambelt and tensioner.

the idea with the car is to keep it looking standard but can handle it self when it needs to be pushed.
I would of loved the idea of fitting up another 16v to this one, but as there is a budget set, just buying the 16v mainifold (supersprint) would tightern things up.

Well at last i got the car back after much a do on saturday.
After getting her back the main thing was to get her rolling again, so i slammed on some spare gear, and started to install the steering rack and coloum. Much joy that was as i had mixed up a mk1 golf lower u.j with the rocco one, but some how managed to lose the rocco one in to my dads workshop and end up with two mk1 golf u.j's which are and inch shorter !..Little tip for ya..
Anyway after much a do things have started to take shape.
Rack / steering coloum is all bolted in and we have steering horay..
Dash and dash loom and now sorted, after removing the old one as it had been cut about for and alarm or some thing.
Heater box all fitted up.
Front lights bumper grill and wiring is all sorted..
Rear wiring loom is sorted just need to connect the washer bottle, boot light.
Started on the central locking set up also pretty much all there.
Never got a chance to take a pic of the dash all wired up with the clocks in as i lost day light and the flash on camera is poop...

Good news.
I have power every where. lights, central locking, dash, horn, heater,fuel pump lift pump etc.
rear carpet is in. Seat belts are in.
Door cards are in.
1 Key to fit all locks.
Lower half of centre console.
All heater cables sorted.
Come together rather quick the inside. But i still have a major job to to, that is proving problems in sourcing...The headlining......
Looking at doing brakes this weekend, and tidying up the engine loom ready for the freshend up engine.
After market suspension turned up today, very pleased with it.




No pic yet of the carpet and seatbelts, probable that there wont be couse we all know what they look like

Righto steering and suspension is all done bar two little things, anti roll bar brackets for wishbone and rear mounting point. Got them some where.
Engine will be shoehorned in very very soon.
Need to run two new front brake lines to calipers.

The so far situ is
Carpet all in
All wiring/ electrical componants are working.
Disc's are on brake calipers going on this weekend.
Engine is finally going in after a few mishaps with broken studs on the exhaust manifold.
Gearbox and new clutch all mount to engine.
Wiring all tidyed up
Inlet manifold is matched to 16v throttle
Supersprint manifold is in position.
Theres loads done now looking like a car have a quick front end overhaul.
Oh yeah a nice set of speedline 5 spokes are awaiting to be fitted....

Good news today, can finally fired up.
A couple of minor exhaust blows nowt to worry about.
Bleed brakes and adjust gears, fit headlining then off to m.o.t
Smiles all round.

had a good day today. Got the engine all timed up, fan kicks in at right temp and oil temp is sitting at
normal running temp...
Brakes all bled up well.
Started to install some sound proofing up the centre pillers and rear pillers and along the back of the roof.
Just got a exhaust blow that needs sorting, and re-aline the gear stick to get all the gears. Then is job done underneath..

Anyway heres a pic of the engine in day light, still needs a clean, but im aiming for m.o.t first as im away on hols in 2wks. So time's got to be used well in finishing the car, tinkering for later eh !!
