so even more boring sanding and filling and re sanding and refilling and re sanding is starting to get monotonous. but its starting to show some positive results but this unpredictable weather has led to drastic protective action being taken in the form of a portable man-cave

That's better that my garage! It's bigger and has lighting. Watching with interest.

cheers tim the lighting was a bargain.
4 strip lamps from b&q at £16 each, then some cable and a switch was only another £20

planning on a garage and want to compare what I've got in my head with something with a real rocco in it!!!!!
dont forget to add at least another 5 feet of space in front of the rocco for tinker space inside your garage so you can have a bench in there.
nothing worse than having a token garage that you can fit a car in and not even be able to get out of it for lack of space.
out of curiosity did anyone else on here own this car before me and edmundator?
the reg is E303 KVV
im just interested to hear from whoever owned it before about its history and how it got into the state that it was in when i got it.
someone loved it at one point because of all the new parts that were on it, its got me thinking what happened?
So I have cut the sunroof out. What a mission that was!
However welding the new panel in warped the roof!
I know I know you told me so! Lol
So I've cut the panel back out and am goin to rivit a panel on instead.
I will up date with photos when I get a chance.
so heres some pics of me taking the sunroof out.
a rather nasty headlining to take out first by tilting the sunroof and pushing the cloth bit down from the out side and using a bent coat hanger to get the retaing spring off.
really easy to do this bit
this is the spring you unhook then the whole cloth bit can slid back out of the way.
next i undone 8 screws that hold the lid bit onto the mechanism
the two big ones here
and these two big ones.
there are two screws each side that hinge the front of the lid to the car mechanism aswell but i dont have a pic to show yall so dont forget to take these out too
i wound the mechanism back slightly to get easier access to the multitude of small screws that held the mechanism onto the frame which once loose i could slide out from the car
this left the cassete frame thing the roof retracts into
unfortunately i dont have any pics of the cassette thing removal from the roof but its held in with 6 lug type pieces that are welded to the inside of the gutter rail where joins to the car, the frame is glued entirely around the frame of the car which was a real pain to remove so i cut it out in sections to make it a lot easier to remove.
the front section i think is spot welded to the lip on the perimeter edge of the sunroof hole, again this got nailed by the grinder.
which left me with this
notice the roof support just behind the sunroof hole.
i used acroprops to support the roof and brace it against deforming when being welded which worked well ......... until i removed them and the roof sort of went pop.
the photos dont show the extent of the deformity but there were dips and undulations all over the areas i had welded and the middle of it just sagged really badly
a lot of filler may have fixed it but not long term because of the flex in the roof.
so i cut the lot back out and the roof magically went back to the right shape.
i have since pop riveted a sheet of steel onto the roof instead and the shape is a million times better and was so much easier to do!
