'77 Mk1 Scirocco GLS: Project patina time!

Post by G60MAT »

Been on the forum for a while and looking for a Mk1 for over a year and as we all know there's not many out there! Decided a while back it had to be an early spec with chrome bumpers and ideally in silver or grey. Went for viewing on Christmas Eve = deal done and got it home this Friday. It's a 1977 GLS with 2 previous owners, just 61K and history. Its a complete car with very little rot, its runs, but no MOT and was last taxed in 1992!

Not had chance to do anything yet but a full clean-up will begin later in the week, but a quick pic with my other project a Satin Silver Corrado VR6.

Very nice - the only car left on my "list". Was this the one on "car and classic" a while back?

Both are very nice indeed, although the Corrado looks huge next to the mk1 in that photo :hehe:

You going to mod it much? Think the brown French '75 that's often at edition 38 is a nice usable modded mk1 ( with a g60 too!) , or are you going all out!!!! :hehe:
I plan too, but have been waiting nearly 2 months for bagyard to send m' struts!!!! So nothin doing at the mo

Thanks, its took a while, but well pleased, yeah love the brown one at edition, seen it a few times now. First call is a clean, then get it all legal and MOT'd, but full resto in time, i'm in no rush, although i've already been looking at wheels - temps one for now and then show wheels...

Might run it as is (scruffy but solid) for a while and enjoy some seventies motoring! :hehe:

Had plans to start the full clean out this weekend but ended up cleaning the daily and picking up some new rims!

Image
As you can see the bonnet has seen better days but only surface rust.

Image
Cleaned up the new rims, all will be revealed later in the week after replacing the "balloon" tyres and test fitting! ;)

Aye we have not had a chance to catch up yet. My car was towed to tatton and drove to edition38. I hope to have it back out and ready for All types in May.

My wheel guess is....

Finally got round to the "big" clean today, here's a few pics pre clean (too dark post clean)...

Cleaned up better than expected, all the rot I thought was on the sills was actually just mud which cleaned off!

Plan is to keep on with the cleaning, assembly a few missing MOT bits and service items and get it MOT'd next month.

At least its now tucked away in the garage... :mafia:
