ABF engine - no vacuum advance!

Post by davemac »

Hi, I'm after a bit of advice regarding best distributor choices for an ABF running carbs.

I've got almost everything I need to fit my ABF, which will be running twin DCOE 40's, but I'm wondering where I could get a distributor with vacuum advance for it from? In stock form, both KR and ABF seem to have been done electronically, but I don't have an ignition module.

The dizzys must exist, because there is one in this video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaOmtV3OiP4

Thanks,
Dave.

Legend has it that a Pug 205 GTI dizzy has the mechanical timing you need - internet search will answer this no doubt. Vac advance only works at low revs so not really necessary.

Thanks for the advice. I've since heard that a Saab 900 one will fit, or a 1.1 or 1.3 Mk1 Golf one also fits, but isn't electronic.
I didn't realise that vacuum was only used at low revs, might just stick with the ABF one for now.
Cheers,
Dave

ABF management controls fuel and spark - it wouldn't know how much fuel is going in with carbs

This controls the spark and not the fuel.....
