Anyone running a 20v v5 2.3?

Post by mk2daz »

it's a long way away but the excitement of a new project spirals lots of ideas of what to do to the car through my head.

Iv been keeping my eye on eBay at numerous cars running the 20v v5 2.3 engine both 150hp and 170hp. MOT failures going for no more than £100-£300. Iv seen a few boys sticking these into mk2 golfs but couldn't really find any information or threads on a mk2 scirocco.. so, has anyone done this before or know anyone who has? What kind of work was involved? Is an LSD needed? it looks quite a heavy engine and Iv read it's a essentially a Vr6 minus a cylinder. is there some kind of conversion kit that can be bought for this?

the vr6 is quite a tricky conversion to do with moving engine mounts. think its the same story here

vr6 has been done in a rocco but it is a heavy engine in a light car so the nose becomes heavy

1.8t is the conversion of choice

check this thread out on engine conversions

it is indeed different and provides decent power but is it to much work for the return

the 150 is a 10v, the 170 is the 20v

V5 isn't actually any heavier than a 1.8t

why bother buying an mot failure - you can buy one with a ticket for under 500 and drive it home legally!

I was thinking about v5 conversion but it didn't make sense financially, cheaper and easier for a 20vt and tuning etc is a hell of a lot cheaper. But if ya want something a bit more unique I'd go for it.
