window seal gloop?

Post by steve bain »

when i refit the windows should i use some sort of gloop?

years ago i used a silicone sealant just to be sure but having just spent an age getting the stuff off i feel it may not be the right thing to use again. is there some sort of non setting stuff? or just i just use the rubber and clean surfaces? rubbers all in good nick.

same question for door and boot seals too

I've never done this myself, but I have a VW Scirocco service bulletin which says the following:

"To prevent leaks, windscreens, rear windows, and side windows are being sealed with window sealing compound during production.

After removal and installation or when changing a window glass the body channel and the window channel in the window seal must be sealed all the way around.

The sealing is carried out using window sealing compound D 001 007. "

There is a figure which shows some sealant being used between the body and the window seal and between the glass and the window seal. Unfortunately I'm not sure what compound D 001 007 is - silicone or something else...

when auto windscreens put my windscreen in they used some kind of black sealant that never goes off.
looks a lot like roof and gutter sealant.
maybe its worth popping down vw and asking what D 001 007 is?
