I'm new to the forum with a querry.
Hi all I'm Nathan in the far north of the highlands of Scotland. I know of only one other person so far with an identical scirocco to mine (a tornado red gt2) that's in my locality.
I thought I'd introduce myself and ask a few questions if that's okay.
The story behind my ownership started with an mk3 ford Capri. I'm 25 and made that beast my first car at the age of 21. It went through extremely tedious concurs restoration by myself but alas the paint job is needed. Although it couldn't be beaten underneath and inside the outside was an embarrassment to drive due to patchwork paint. Because of my location it is proving difficult to find a good painter ( the only skill I don't have).
So the scirocco came about as an idea when I considered getting a run about car. The choice was a shitty modern heap or another interesting car. When browsing flea bay it just hit me, The listing was perfect for no reason.
Without any real knowledge of the car I drove with a friend 250 miles to get this scirocco then drove it back on trust alone on the return journey.
It impressed on me so much that I just decided it would get the concurs treatment as well.
so...
my questions start.
If I'm going for an original gt2 1.8 should:
the exterior mirrors be black or were the all colour coded red from factory?
is the rear badge to be black or did some silver badges exist?
did the gt2 come with standard steelies or the starfish wheels or both depending on choice when purchasing?
lastly did all the gt2's come with blackened rear lights?
thanks.

On a GTII:
Wing mirrors are colour-coded to body colour.
Rear badges black as standard and just SCIROCCO for model designation (i.e. no 'GT' or 'GTX' etc.)
Standard wheels would be steel with plastic trims around the inner rim, although alloys would have been an option.
Yes, I'm confident all GTII Sciroccos had black striped rear lights.

Re: I'm new to the forum with a querry.
Thanks for the info lads and the website.
I actually found the site myself and referenced my car too it.
I misted the lights and will be seeking the red mirrors.
The badge throws me off though as in the ref pics its silver but on every scirocco ive seen its black.
Anyway I've kept the black badges.

Re: I'm new to the forum with a querry.
From My GTII which is stock apart from the front grille...
I can confirm that it has color coded mirror front case
The front grille should badge should be silver, Mine has a black one from an earlier GTI that came from a scrappy after the original was attacked by a high speed pheasant... The rear badge and name badges are black plastic with silver facing, though the silver does tend to get washed/polished off. (The badges by the door should be yellow with black insert writing, unfortunately mine got in the way of a wayward pressure washer.
The rear lights are black striped and as far as i'm aware all GTII's had steel wheels with the trim rings (let me know if you find any I'm missing one...)
Also have a look at the brochures at the bottom of this link

Enjoy and i'm very jealous of the roads you get to drive it on...

No. They should be black on a GTII. Earlier cars had silver facings, which does indeed tend to fade with time/washing.The rear badge and name badges are black plastic with silver facing, though the silver does tend to get washed/polished off.

The one's on the top of the page of the DR Dub GTII link, which i presume is a press photo are silverNo. They should be black on a GTII. Earlier cars had silver facings, which does indeed tend to fade with time/washing.
But there does seem to be a mix out there...
I'll have a furtle about in the garage later and check mine again

Yes, press/brochure photos are notoriously unreliable. Most brochures carry a disclaimer of sorts to this effect.

I concur with Ed on the black rear badges. Not so certain about the black striped rear lights though?
