S2 16v Carburetor Inlet Manifold Question (& Introduction)

Post by chill_ina_vw » Tue Jun 14, 2016 5:34 am

Hi, I'm from Texas but I'm not a cowboy :-D I own an 1988 Scirocco 16v. I am doing the carb swap from the so popular CIS. I have a concern about "a" short runner intake manifold.

My Dellorto DHLA's "C" are 40mm but the intake manifold I'm trying to buy is 45mm for webber. I'm assuming it is a DCOE, (I just asked the seller this question but haven't heard just yet from him) if it is DCOE has anyone had tuning problems, idle Problems because of the small difference? I've read some people use a 45mm on a 40mm but didn't get enough info to conclude.

Thanks in advanced! cheers

Any here she is.

Hi, and welcome.

Are you on VW Vortex forums? I suspect you'll have more luck finding people who've done this conversion on there. In the UK we didn't get any 16v mk2 Sciroccos (not officially, anyway) and I haven't seen anyone do the particular conversion you're attempting.

Probably more luck on club gti or gti NI. Plenty of members with mk2 kr golfs with carb conversions like yours. Or Brunty on The sciroccouk.co.uk. Usually followed by an electric fuel pump and digital electrics such as dignifiz or a mega jolt system with trigger wheel and ford coil pack.
Best of luck.

The 'step' in intake diameter may cause some flow turbulence and slow down and affect the throttle response, possibly fuelling some but it will work to a fashion.
As stated by others have a look around forums I'm sure you'll find an answer.

O, I didn't know the UK didn't officially get 16v. That's odd since the 16v was a big power choice for production on the mk2. I am a Vortex member for a while now, except most people won't respond unless someone really wants to say anything haha.

I will for sure check those sites whiteshark thanks!

Duggers, I agree with you. Even though the it is a smal diameter, the air fuel mixture passing from the venturi into the intake manifold would curve just a bit.

thanks for the help!

I think VW did import a very few 16V in to the UK. Most people who want a 16v just swop the engine over from another car and fit it in.

Ten in total!
