HI, newbie wanting some advice
HI, newbie wanting some advice
Hi all, don't no much about Sciroccos but been offered a mk2 gti, first Registered June 1982, it was last used on the road in 94, and been Sat in a Garaged most of that time, the bodywork is in a really good condition, 2 owners for new, lots of paper work, it's got 60000 miles on the clock, the guy wants £400 for it, is it worth a gamble? a friend of mine is Mechanic So I will get him to have a look around it at the weekend, Thank you in advance for your replies, Darren

Sounds a good price.
If it's not been started in all that time make sure you can turn the engine over by hand first, put a 19mm socket on the bottom pulley and turn it over, you should be able to feel the compression as you turn the engine over and hear the air expelling then compression building up again as you keep turning.
I would not try and get it to run as you may suck up all-sorts of rubbish from the fuel tank and if it gets in the fuel system that will cause lots of expense and headaches.
The petrol left in the fuel tank will have turned to mush as petrol goes off after 9 months or so, there is an inspection hole underneath the back seat but you do need to remove the sender then you can have a look in the fuel tank before getting it to run.
I think there is still a buyers guide on the home so that will give you more things to look for, most of the rot happens on the rear end/rear arches for some reason the fronts don't seem to rot away much???
Let us know how you get on and pictures are always welcome.

Great rear arches, straight bumpers, and twin gti headlights. The bodywork looks great. Your on to a winner. At that price it was a steal. Hope your interior is as good as the exterior. From the pics your Seats look great and you have the rare Gti checkered material. What a buy!!
