We've been revalued

Post by the edmundator »

Latest (Feb 2016) issue of Classic Cars magazine has the quarterly (I think) price guide in it. For the first time in ages, Mk1 Scirocco values have been changed - and we're up. They reckon:

Dealer/concours: £7000
Mint: £5000
Good: £2500
Rough: £1200

They quote the engine capacity as 1470cc, which certainly wouldn't be a common find in the UK.

Broadly, I agree with their update. Still only 50% of Mk1 Golf GTI values in all categories. It's the clever choice.

Good to see.

So how do others get on with the agreed value insurance on their Mk1? Never really had to push to get a good figure agreed and wondered if others find the same.

Mine was agreed at £6k this year. I'm sure it could have been a bit higher, if I'd wanted. It's still small-fry for insurance companies, so I don't think they're likely to argue much at this level.

Just put mine in for this year so waiting to see what it comes back with but last year was 7.5k. Like you say though in the great scheme of things it isn't a lot for an insurance company thinking about it.

We all hope never to use the insurance company for a claim on a Mk1.
I think I had better up my value when I come to renew later in the year.

*cough*... Here goes... Recently got got my renewal through from Hagerty. £130 for the year at an agreed value of £15 K.. I've bitten my lip about the slating the guy gets in General Discussion about his now £19 K car.. I could not replace my car like-for-like, £15 K is nowhere near what I've spent on mine. If the worst happened though? Monetary fortitude does not interest me, I won't be letting go of my car 'till I'm pushing up Daisy's.. You have to be pragmatic about these issues.

I certainly have! Only spotted it this morning. It is obviously not a minter, and a tow away so £2 K now is good going!
