what a really great place..... Had a good look around and like what I see, so I'm moving in.
I've owned a 1984 CL in white, a 1987 GT in cosmos blue a 1989 GTII in silver; and now a 1991 GTII in pearl green. The current car has a rear brake disc conversion, new fuel tank and stainless filler neck, jetex exhaust, GTi oil cooler, and scala alloys diamond cut and re-sprayed pearl green. Will get some pictures as soon as I dig them out.

Hi everyone.
My name is Chris, I've recently joined after purchasing a Mk1 Storm that was highlighted on here. A quick potted history of me and a bit of fun too, hopefully.
I started in the automotive industry (we called it car mechanics when I left school in the Seventies, but heh-ho) by joining a VW Garage in East London as an apprentice mechanic (thankfully we call them technicians today). At the time it was a an hour and half commute each way from home and in the late Seventies and jobs weren't easy to get, especially if all you left school with was a wave from the Headmaster as he muttered; "thank goodness that lot have gone" under his breath. I was also dead-keen on cars!
For those old enough to recall the country was in meltdown - if anyone thinks Brexit is bad! - in quick succession we had Mr Callaghan, Mrs Thatcher, The Winter of Discontent, the Miners Strike was on its way and I'd joined a VW Dealer who essentially had two models, a Beetle (Type1) and a Camper Van (Type2).
All my pals were dashing about in Mk1 Cortina's of the 1500GT type or Mk 1 Escorts 1300E's, I had, wait for it - a 6 volt Beetle with a 1200 engine running on three cylinders. Could it get much worse! Almost. VW bought NSU which had the wonderful RO80 with a rotary engine. Light years ahead of its time but what a nightmare that car was!
Then VW turned the corner. It brought in the Golf (well strictly the Rocco was first) swiftly followed by other water cooled vehicles - the aircooled purists went mad, I recall. VW then bought Audi, which was then a struggling nobody and the rest is history. A great story of true strategic planning. Not unlike British Leyland......
I worked for various VW/Audi/VAG Dealerships in London. Becoming reasonably okay-ish. An aside. I do have great memories of those days. The people, the cars, the culture. It was great. Nostalgia's not what its used to be is it!
Fast forward to today. I've owned one or two businesses over the years. I still do today. The most successful being a body repair business I started with my business partners back in the nineties in East London. Still going very well, employing about 50 people today - if my old Headmaster could see me now......I've also been involved in several charities over the years like I'm sure many of us have. I am Chair of one we started about five years ago trying to get apprentices back in to our industry. It's what gave me my start. We've placed or helped a good few hundred young people and have plans for many more. Another aside, whenever we hold an apprentice/employer/schools "showcase day", we try and get some classics there, everyone loves them, the mums, the dads, the teachers. The kids? Well, i think they like 'em too. Difficult to tell what they like at that age isnt it.
I hope I can contribute a little to the Forum/Register and also help people out if they need it / if I can, without being a nuisance. Ask me any question you like, as long as its an easy one. Seriously, if I can help, I'm happy too.

Oh, nearly forgot, the Storm, the reason I joined! If anyone is interested in following the resto of the Storm I'm happy to post. As I said above, I dont want to be a nuisance and I'm not here to sell. Let me know. Bear with on the IT side. We didn't even have BBC Acorn computers at my school.....
