Burning Problems!

Post by Village Idiots »

My Scala decided to fry itself today! Hopefully not too much major damage as I was able to put it out reasonably quickly.
I won't be able to get it back home 'til later to fully assess the damage.
I know some of the tubes, etc atop the engine are gone, not a problem. However the upper covers to the timing belt will need new (as will the belt itself).
I will post a full list of parts needed when I have been able to fully assess the damage, hoping for some responses from the kind folks on here!
Time for a cup of tea now!

what happened? i had a small under bonnet fire on frankenrocco years back, caused by the fuel line breaking free of it's cable tie and fouling against the alternator pulley.

#1 suspect is a fuel leak on the line to cylinder 1 injector.
I don't have time to look closely 'til Monday or Tuesday.

Initial check suggests I need all the hoses on top of the engine, plus check valve (and maybe some other bits....hard to be sure what's gone due to burning and melting!). Complete set from broken inj engined car would be ideal! Also need the upper timing belt covers (both sides), and the oil filler cap.
If anyone can post good photos of complete set up of the top of the engine that would be a great help.
Thanks in advance.

This any help?

Ive just removed all the top hoses and injection lines etc... off mine so took a couple of snaps for reference, i'm sure there are better pics out there though!

p.s. removed all mine for inspection and cleaning whilst i'm doing the cam seal and they all gotta go back on so unfortunately not available, i'm sure someone will be breking an injection model soon though :-)

Many thanks for those pics, Will.
Not really had the time or courage to look too closely at the damage, but checking various Haynes and your pics, the layout is starting to make sense. First job is to clean everything up and then see what progress can be made.
Will, I may come back with some questions if that is OK.

No probs

If i can help i will, might not be much use as after taking the hoses i had to stop work due to impending surgery....

After surgery i'll be useless for a couple of weeks too

Good luck and i hope the damage is not too bad! :)
