Maximum Rim Size before modifications

Post by BagPuss »

Hey Guys,

This has possibly been asked time and time again

Currently I have 15's that are fitted with 195x50's Tyres, but what size am I able to go to without have to alter the inside of the arches?

Will 16's fit and will they be able to clear the inner arch without catching?

Or is it best just to stick with 15's?

Cheers Guys

Hi,

Depends more on ride height and tire width/profile.
I've lowered mine quite a lot and the standard 14" 60 profile tires were rubbing on the arch liner, so I went for a 50 profile and that solved the problem.
If your still at standard height you could possibly get away with up to 17" and a really low profile tire.

Ben

Hi Ben,

Mines lowered by around 30mm, never had a problem with rubbing with 15's, would be nice to go to 16's if nothing needs to bedone to the inners.

If not I'll stick with 15's, but eventually change them for something else.

Thanks

Just out of interest why don't you want to do anything work wise?

At the ride height you're talking about I really can't see any problems though

Hi, on my MK2 Storm i'm running 7.5 x 16 ET20 fronts with 195/40 tyres (no rubbing at all).
Rears are 9 x 16 ET15 with 215/40 tyres (very very slight rubbing over big bumps on drivers side).
Car is still fitted with original vw suspension and no rear seat passengers ever carried.

Hope this helps.

Steve.

If I can get away without modding that would be good, just don't really want to start cutting the inner arches.

Thanks Steve, may look into the different offset you have, I wouldn't go that wide on the back.
