Looks like another fuel filter to me...Check for a rusty fuel filler neck...might have been the previous owners quick fix!

Not a standard item it should be plumbed in like this (I just have the bigger latter fuel filter)
It is some kind of filter after the main fuel filter, very strange but does not need to be there to get the car to work.

Magnetic fuel filter as already mentioned

If it is a magnetic fuel filter I can see the benefits of fitting one.

It has a stainless steel filler neck on it when I got it. Will just leave it.

I'm just looking for a reason as to why I'm using more then quarter of a tank of fuel to 60 miles. No leaks any where in/out/underneath car. I noticed the fuel cap seal is slightly perished so that's may be a part of it so went gsf and they gave me one but it's wrong. It's had a SS filler neck fitted so does that make the cap different? This is the only one gsf say fits mine but it's no where near fitting

I've been monitoring fuel from full and how much I'm putting in and it seems to take the same amount to fill it and fills so I wouldn't have thought so

So I'm having trouble with the fuel cap replacement.
This is the one on the car

And this is the one gsf are telling me is correct for me car

But it literally doesn't fit no matter what, I've tried fitting it locked/unlocked. Just pushing it in and locking but it doesn't even go in at all.

Any ideas? All the ones I see on eBay appear the same as the gsf one so I'm stumped

I find the fuel gauge not to be the most accurate, I find it takes ages from full tank to 1/2 tank then from 1/2 to 1/4 goes very quickly.
The end of your filler neck looks like one fitted to my mk1 scirocco and mk1 golf?
Perhaps the end from one of those has been welded on, do you know anyone with a mk1 golf or scirocco who's petrol cap you can try?

This is the wrong cap but the workings are the same bit it's vented for carb cars but you can see the tabs seem smaller than the mk2 sciroccos?

There is 2 types of fuel cap and being an injection car you need a none vented fuel cap.

In glad you've said that, when I went back to gsf they only had that one they had given me. So I asked them to bring up a mk1 one and surprisingly it looks much more like the one on my car, so he's ordered one for me to try out tomorrow so will let you know

Went to gsf today, and tried the mk1 cap they ordered for me, it's too big to even go down the gap to get to the neck.

God knows where I'm going to get one
