I want to see if I can gain a little power by changing my weber carb for something a touch bigger (more out of curiosity than anything).
I currently have the 32/34 Weber. After a bit of research I found out the CFM is rated at 195...If i'm right this is slightly lower than it should be for the engine.
1800cc in ci is around 110ci
110ci X 7000rpm (Slightly optimistic) / 3456 = 222
So, has anyone here tried machining the venturis to increase the airflow? Sort of like porting a head?
I know the obvious answer would be to just switch to bike carbs, but i'm interested to see if this has been done?
I'm increasingly interested in putting in a DX camshaft, porting the head and uping the CFM of the carb as it'll look completely factory under the bonnet.
Thoughts?

The weber is smaller than the original pieburg carb fitted. Speak to someone like Essex carbs and see if they can hook you up with a biggerer carb

I do have a pierburg 2e at home, although physically bigger the venturi were actually smaller than the 32/34 in diameter, they could be taller, I didn't measure that.

Maybe they are taller then! I wish there was those bolt on EFI systems like the V8s have, that would be fun!

ive often contemplated fitting the efi system from a later mk3 golf as the engines look identical (barring some being 2 litre), so must be compatable
I dont mind project cars but I HATE SANDING!!!

To fit digipants from a mk3 golf, you'd probably need to swap the head over. Easy enough job though. I've got digipants in my mk1, although I fitted the engine complete. Also put a 2E into my last mk2 from a passat
