I'd start of checking the connections at the back of the clocks. I think the rev counter works through resistance, the less the resistance the higher the RPM on the clock, so could be a blown resistor. Best off taking the clocks out and having a play around

I'm not 100% sure about that by the way, just what I would start with

Does it flap about or just hole steady? When the earth strap on mine broke between the rocker cover and coil, Rev counter went nuts

just flies round as soon as you turn the key and the dash lights come on, checked continuity between the plug on the back of the dials and the coil thats ok, will try and get the dials out if we get a dry day the weekend,

Check the earth wire going to the back of the engine rocker cover, if that fails causes all sorts of problems with the dash.

check the earth for the ignition circuit to as i believe the rpm counter works of the negative side of the coil as it pulses?
you may find theres a bad earth in the ignition and its trying to earth through the rpm counter instead (in theory).

Do you have an MFA on the car and have you checked the earth in the engine bay going to the rocker cover?

Gauge is kaput, but the cost of second hand is unbelievable, anyone got a spare set of gauges at a half decent price.
