Re: Smoke through dash
Centre consol doesn't need removing to check the matrix, but it is an awkward job. Before doing that though check your drain holes in the scuttle area are clear and not blocked, if they are blocked it would cause water to enter the heater. Doubtfull if engine fumes are coming through, unless you hav...

Use Tiger Seal and seal from the windscreen to the headlights as the whole point is to prevent water ingress, which as we know causes rust!

Not teaching you to suck egg, but ensure your coolant is at the maximum level and run the car up to normal operating temperature and ensure you have no leaks or it isn't smoking!LeonDixon wrote:Thanks guys! Appreciate it, i'll try put a new belt on it tomorrow!

Re: Coolant/Water Leak
Hopefully it will be okay! Does the alternator turn okay and also the water pump, I'm asking as in 30 years of owning VW's I have never had a belt snap on me?

The alternator belt also drives the water pump, so I hope you didn't drive far as you would have cooked your engine?

Re: Juddering whilst driving/losing power?
Go through the usual checks, carb base fuel lines (ensuring they haven't collapsed), clean air filter, dizzy cap and rotor arm in good order and not forgetting the HT leads.

Re: Juddering whilst driving/losing power?
Sounds like a fueling issue. Is the in-line fuel filter full of crap? If the filter is full of crap it will need changing. What carb have you got fitted, standard or a Weber, does it still have a swirl pot?

Re: were mk1 floor mats specific?
The VW ones in my mk2 Golf are suitable for a variety of models - there are instructions on the back about how to cut them along the markings to make them fit. I don't know if this is the case for earlier cars as well. They were. I remember buying some rubber mats from a German VW dealer (I was liv...

Re: Fueling glitch moment?
WTF!!! I see what you mean Jeff, there isn't even a relay there! It looks as if the fuel pump will run constantly with the ignition on. The fuse box needs dropping out and the wires tracing but I think that someone has bodged it because 1. They didn't want to buy a new relay or 2. The fuse box is da...
