Re: horn not working after swap

Steve I think you are right. What I might do is put the dual horns idea on the back burner for the moment... Since you have power to the horn, fitting a relay is fairly straight forward, you disconnect the live wire from the horn and use that to power the relay. Run a fused line from the battery to...

Re: 4WD rocco ideas

Check over on VW Vortex, there are some threads on 4WD conversions, I think you will be surprised as to how much extra work is involved.

Re: speedo issue

Have you taken it out and poured oil down it?

I used to have a sticky speedo at low speeds but once a year I take it off and oil it and the problem is cured.

As for the worn bits, I find that self fusing tape is pretty good, just make sure the outside is free from any grot.

Pretty sure it's not retrospective as per link from Mr Funk.

These things? You can get them in most car shops, variously described as VW clips/grommets/fasteners.

Re: Clear Indicators and side repeaters

These look like the ones I bought (although I got mine from Germany). The ones I got are fine, just have to blank off the parking light bit. Don't forget to either use silvered amber bulbs or LEDs unless you like the fried egg look. Used to be ~£100 a pair, nice to see the price coming down a bit. ...

Re: 1985 scirocco GTX barn find restoration

This might help with your searches http://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/scirocco/sci/1985-13 . That rear valence doesn't look that bad, more bent out of shape than anything else (unless there's worse rust not showing in the pics). The bit around the exhaust can have a plate made up and welded in (that'...

Re: Replacement wings and arches

I recall reading that you can use arches from the front wings to replace the opposite outer rear wheel arch, e.g., a RSF arch can repair a LHR arch. This is only of use if you can get replacement front wings and the ones you take off have intact arches, but it can save hunting for rear arches. From ...

Re: 1985 scirocco GTX barn find restoration

Just to clear up, are you talking about the support for the rear shock being rusty? From your picture I assumed you were talking about the part of the inner wheel housing behind the fuel filler which seems to be where all the rust is. http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t671/colts1striker/Mobile%20U...

Re: 1985 scirocco GTX barn find restoration

When you fix the rear turret change the angle that the bracket for the filler pipe sits, it's usually the point where it rusts through. It's a bad design and collects a pile of crud the way it is fitted. Agree with Ben regarding the ballast resistor, never had a problem with the blower on a Scirocco.

Re: Meeting in Scotland? (Time and venue TBC)

Since I wrote the last message I have had nothing but trouble, the car has been in the garage several times and it is only last week that it was finally sorted...brand new suspension and a new steering rack amongst other things. So, sorry nothing was arranged, I hope we can get something organised i...
