OEM Paint Supplier to VW
Just wondering if anyone knows who the manufacturer of the body paint / basecoat was (or was likely to be) that Volkswagen (Karmann) used at the factory in the 1980s when the Mk2s were being built? I know they might have used different suppliers (e.g DuPont) of the solvent based paints that were use...

1986 Volkswagen UK Model Range Video
Spotted this promotional video on the ROVR YouTube channel that might be of interest and was made in 1985 to introduce the 1986 model year range: The link above begins where the new 1986 Scirocco GT is introduced, but the rest of the video is wor...

Re: Driver's Door Quarterlight
Thanks essextom, Definitely sounds like it will be worthwhile removing the door card beforehand then, but as I'll have to probably keep the window in and door mirror on for the journey to the bodyshop at least I can forewarn them about how to remove them. Suppose some real care will be needed not to...

Driver's Door Quarterlight
The upper portion (above the rubbing strip) of my Mk2 driver's door has a scratch on it that needs repair involving repainting and blending the metallic into the rest of the section of the door. To do this, the outer main bottom winding window seal will need to be prised up and off. Not really a pro...

Re: Removing External Door Handle
Thanks guys - that's good news that the door card doesn't have to be removed first.

Removing Rear Wheelarch Bodykit Piece
My o/s rear wheel arch body kit piece needs to come off to do a paintwork repair to the rear wing. It's the plain black, unpainted type body kit. I know that these are stuck on with a type of Tigers ealing black rubberised sealant. Does anyone have any experience of removing this piece if trim and h...

Removing External Door Handle
Is it possible to remove the external door handle from a Scirocco Mk2 without having to remove the interior door card first? Haynes manual says that the interior door card has to be removed first, but I can't see why it has to as the remainder of the instructions just involve levering out the chrome...

Re: Gearbox end cover removal
Weighing it up, after looking at the car I think that it would just be possible to remove the end cover casing with access from underneath and careful use of spanners / sockets.... ....but I'm thinking that before the end cover will come away, perhaps some of the clutch mechanism inside might need t...

Re: Gearbox end cover removal
I might give that a try. I think the leak is coming from the new VW gasket fitted a few years ago. For some reason, whilst it was the right shape the width of the pattern is wider than that of the castings it's supposed to seal, hence the slight leak. I need to study it again, but the thing that mig...

Gearbox end cover removal
I need to replace the gasket between the 5 speed manual gearbox casing on my Mk2 and the end cover, which bolts to it. This is due to an oil leak from the gasket. Is it possible to unbolt and remove the end cover from the gearbox casing without the rigmarole of having to remove most of the engine &a...

Re: Water pump query
The genuine VW water pump I bought a few years ago was the full pump, so you should be okay.
Worth checking, but I think the pump is an exchange part, so you should receive a part refund if you return the old pump.

Re: Fuel Tank Breather Hose Clamp
I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and order some smal quantities of a range of different size Oetiker clamps (single ear and with-without insert), which is what I wanted to avoid having to do, but sometimes it's the only way! By hedging my bets, at least I should have the right one availa...

Re: Fuel Tank Breather Hose Clamp
Thanks GT_II - that's useful, as I want to keep the car to the original specification; even down to this level of detail. I want to find out what the right clamp is in advance of doing the job so that the work isn't held-up waiting for the right size of Oetiker clip to arrive. As you say, the 16-28m...

Fuel Tank Breather Hose Clamp
Bit of a long shot, but if anyone has had experience of replacing the fuel tank on a Scirocco Mk2, can you recall what hype of hose clamp secures the larger width, clear reinforced breather hose to the fuel tank connection? (This is the hose that lives behind the platic guard in the offside rear whe...
