Re: New carburettor?

Presumably the hose is reinforced so that it maintains its shape in a vacuum? So it needs to be a specific type of hose.

Re: New carburettor?

I’ve messaged a couple of breakers on eBay, on the basis that even if what they can supply is not in good shape it will allow me to have a good look at the part and see whether it can be cut or adapted. I don’t want to start messing around with the existing hoses in my car and potentially doing irre...

Re: New carburettor?

Thanks. So I was looking at that yesterday but it’s just the valve. I asked the mechanic and he said that I have to replace the whole part with the attached hose, but I did wonder whether that was strictly necessary. Presumably this relies on the current hose being in good shape, and then I just cut...

Re: New carburettor?

Finally got it looked at by my new mechanic yesterday He says there are no air leaks, and thinks the likeliest problem is the brake servo vacuum pipe. He says that the non-return valve could have developed a fault. He’s shown me how to replace it, but I can’t find a new one anywhere. I’ve googled, I...

Re: New carburettor?

I’ll have to do a bit of research re: bypass jet. My carb knowledge doesn’t extend that far! Thank you for the suggestions.

Re: New carburettor?

Thank you.
That’s interesting regarding the possibility of temperature being a factor. It does appear to run ok when cold, and get much worse once the engine is warm, so maybe the missing hose is implicated.
I guess I’ll start with these easy fixes and see if it makes any difference.

Re: New carburettor?

I thought that the missing airbox bits might be responsible it there’s too much air in the mix. But maybe that’s a red herring.

(Incidentally, ignore James’ link to the BMW flange upthread as we discovered it isn’t compatible)

Re: New carburettor?

So… fitted the new custom carb flange replacement last weekend (shout out to James Butler for going above and beyond and patiently walking me through it). Unfortunately it hasn’t fixed the original problem. The car is still stalling when I brake. It runs ok for 10 minutes or so, then starts playing ...

Re: Rear brakes trouble

Thanks for all the ideas.
The brakes are on hold for now while I deal with carb issues and some other stuff, but I’ll come back with an update soon. At the moment I’m off the road.

Re: Rear brakes trouble

Thanks for your help. I’ll have a look into all that.
The Mot guy has offered to let me unofficially retest them once I’ve had a bit of a fiddle with them.

Re: Rear brakes trouble

Just spoke to the MOT tester. He says he used a manual roller system and inputs the weight from the DVSA system. I asked him about the possibility of the DVSA weight being incorrect, and he said that even if it was miles out my brake effort was still incredibly low, so would still be too low for the...

Re: Rear brakes trouble

The MoT tester said that initially the brakes were recording something like 13 and 19, when he would want them to be around 100. At the retest they were 48 and 91. I was initially sold these, based on the year of the car https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/pagid-wheel-cylinder-134440318 When my mechanic ...

Rear brakes trouble

Failed my MOT due to rear brakes on both sides. (‘Service brake effort inadequate at a wheel’)
Mechanic replaced the hydraulic brake cylinders.
Brakes are now improved, but still not good enough for the MOT.

What’s the likely culprit(s) please? Where do I start?
